We previously reported how Cape Verde, a small country playing in their first World Cup pulled off a shocking draw, 0-0, against Spain.
They are ranked 67th in the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) rankings. Spain, on the other hand, is ranked second and was one of the favorites to win it all.
That earned them a point and kept their chances alive to advance. A lot of it was due to the inspired play of their goalkeeper, Vozinha.

Vozinha was sad that his mother couldn't be there to see him because of a visa issue. But even House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (NY-08) acknowledged the help of the State Department and Marco Rubio in helping to resolve the issues for the mother so she could attend his next game. His mother is the lady in the pink:

Uruguay came back and took the lead, 2-1. It looked like Cape Verde's hopes might be dashed.
But Uruguay's goalie made a mistake and came out of the net. That cost them big time, and Cape Verde capitalized on it to tie the game.

The game ended with it still tied, 2-2.
With that, Cape Verde has two draws, and they haven't lost. They could make even more history by advancing to the Round of 32, depending on the next game and how others in their grouping do. The top two teams in each group would advance.
