Spencer Pratt Just Took on One of LA’s Most Heartbreaking Problems - and It Hits Hard

Spencer Pratt has captured attention in the Los Angeles mayoral campaign by being different from regular politicians.

My colleague Becky Noble wrote about how President Donald Trump has ushered in a new brand of politician, and it's true. Trump looks around and sees the dirty Reflecting Pool that's been left in disrepair. That's a metaphor for the rest of the Democratic failure he's trying to clean up.

Pratt is also actually seeing the problems in the city, not looking past them like a politician, but seeing them as a person. He's concentrated on the most important issues like basic safety, crime, and homelessness. But he's also noting other important issues that resonate.

Pratt is even laying out a plan to help stop the abuse of dogs on Skid Row and adoptable dogs being killed in shelters.

There’s a reason “Dog” is just “God”, backwards; they share an unconditional love for mankind. Both Nithya and Karen Bass ignore these poor animals being killed on Skid Row and in their city shelters. They don’t care. I will put an end to this horror. VOTE to save these animals.

Pratt is laying out solutions. First, stop the abuse and hold people accountable.

The registered Republican says he will task the Los Angeles Police Department with creating a PAWS (Protecting Animal Welfare and Safety) task force to enforce animal abuse laws in places like Skid Row.

Animal abuse in Skid Row is widespread, according to multiple reports, with allegations of dogs being used to test drugs for fentanyl or being sold for drugs among a myriad of nightmarish outcomes.

Second and third, Pratt said he would support spay and neuter initiatives to help deal with the issue and support volunteer animal advocates who have been trying to help and call out the issue for years. Pratt praised volunteers like Joey Tuccio, who he said had been ignored by Mayor Karen Bass and those in charge. Pratt said he would work with them to ensure that safe conditions were provided for these animals.

Fourth, Pratt also promised he would fix the bad conditions in the shelters for the dogs and overhaul the system.

Fifth, find them homes. He spoke about training programs with inmates, which would help both the dogs and the inmates, getting the animals ready for adoption.

“In these programs, the dogs get a caring human whose entire day revolves around loving, training, and caring for them. Those criminals find a sense of renewed purpose in caring for their animals,” he said.

And in his closing monologue, Pratt emphasizes the importance of dogs to Angelenos.

“Dogs are not property,” he said. “They are not disposable. They are truly a gift from God and we must cherish that gift and share it freely. If we work together, we can not only lift these heavenly creatures out of their misery in this city, but we can lift ourselves too. The City of Angels is a city of dogs.”

Amen.
