Report: UAE Making Big Military Move to Help Clear Strait As Pressure on Iran Steps up

Iran has actually hit the UAE with more attacks than Israel since the start of Operation Epic Fury, which is crazy. They apparently thought that would make the UAE push the U.S. to stop their action. Instead, it's convinced the UAE that Iran needs to be dealt with so they are no longer a threat.

UAE Minister of State Lana Nusseibeh told Fox's Bret Baier, not only weren't they backing off, they would be "doubling down."

"The UAE has fought side by side with the United States in over six coalitions in our history. We have shared values, we have shared history with the United States. We have interoperability with the United States. They are a clear partner to us in regional security, and we intend to double down on that. Today we are looking at a threat to the international community at large that needs to be stopped in whatever way possible."

Nusseibeh said Trump was right to hold Iran "to account today."

They weren't kidding. As we noted, they'd already joined the U.S. coalition to help clear the Strait of Hormuz. But unlike some other countries, they are reportedly going to put their military skin in the game now.

The United Arab Emirates has told Washington and other Western allies that it would participate in a multinational maritime task force intended to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, the Financial Times reported on Friday, citing people familiar with the matter.

The FT spoke to three sources, two of whom said that Abu Dhabi would deploy its own navy as part of the task force.

The UAE is trying to push dozens of countries to create a "Hormuz Security Force" to defend the strait from Iranian attacks and escort shipping, the report added.

That's exactly what the U.S. was asking for, for others to step up and take some of that escort duty, so good on the UAE for having more guts than France or some of our NATO allies.

The UAE has a pipeline that can circumvent the Strait of Hormuz — the Abu Dhabi Crude Oil Pipeline (ADCOP), which is also known as the Habshan-Fujairah pipeline. But it can't cover as much as the Strait, and the Iranians have been hitting the Port of Fujairah to hurt them.

But there's someone else you might not have expected to do anything on the issue: the U.N. Security Council. Now, while they're mostly known for being ineffective and hating the U.S. generally, they're actually considering resolutions to protect shipping around the Strait, including a Bahraini draft that would authorize the use of "all necessary means." Bahrain is one of the many neighbors that Iran has attacked. Now that would likely be voted down by Russia and/or China. But it's just more evidence that the international pressure is stepping up on Iran, and its neighbors have had enough of it.

So we'll see what takes place this weekend. There's supposed to be a response to the U.S. peace proposal later from the Iranians. If it's ridiculous, anticipate more action.

Editor's Note: For decades, former presidents have been all talk and no action. Now, Donald Trump is eliminating the threat from Iran once and for all.
