About Those 'Boos' of Vance at Olympics - and Who Should Have Earned Some Raspberries Instead

Ah, liberal media. You gotta love them.

Which is to say, you don't have to. Not at all. Even if the facts are right before you, you can get a different spin than what you see with your own eyes or hear with your own ears. You have to constantly question everything they say, because so much comes from an agenda.

So it was with the report of the "boos" for Vice President JD Vance at the Olympics, as our sister site Townhall reported. The American athletes came out as part of the traditional parade into the stadium. During the walk-in, the big screen showed a visual of Vance and his wife, Usha, waving American flags. That's when the media commentator claimed there were boos.

Did you hear it? I don't know about you, but I didn't hear what she said, that had the USA Today and other outlets claiming he was booed. Then folks on the left gilded the lily a bit more, claiming "massive boos" or that the whole stadium booed.

Now, maybe there were a few boos under her commentary, if she was there. You might hear different things at different places in the stadium, so I'll grant that there may have been things I don't hear on these videos. But if I can't even hear it, how prevalent could they have been? And that's also a bit of a comment on the media - they hear from their point of view, which is limited.

Here's another take:

It gets slightly louder for about two seconds with a couple of whistles. That's about it. If that's supposed to be some huge rejection, it wasn't.

But let's not question anything when the media is rushing into yet another narrative that they want to push.

Then, too, I don't think Vance would be particularly concerned about boos in Europe. Indeed, for many on the right, that's almost a badge of honor that you're doing something correct, that your concerns are the United States, not just pleasing or bending over to Europeans as was the case under Joe Biden and Barack Obama.

But what should have earned some raspberries were the comments by a couple of the American athletes. When you're there, you're supposed to be there representing the United States; you shouldn't be saying or doing anything dumb. Like this press conference. Keep your politics at home.

There were skiers Chris Lillis and Hunter Hess.

"I feel heartbroken about what's happened in the United States," Lillis said.

"I think that as a country, we need to focus on respecting everybody's rights and making sure that we're treating our citizens as well as anybody with love and respect," Lillis continued. "And I hope that when people look at athletes competing in the Olympics, they realize that that's the America that we're trying to represent."

Translation? I want to sound like I'm saying the right thing for the liberal narrative, but what I'm saying doesn't say much of anything. Hey, Chris, we're respecting our citizens by actually enforcing the law to protect them. Talk to those on the left and tell them to stop interfering in the arrests. Tell them to respect ICE.

Hess was a little more on the line of rejecting his representing the U.S., saying it leaves him with "mixed emotions":

"I think it brings up mixed emotions to represent the U.S. right now, I think. It's a little hard. There's obviously a lot going on that I'm not the biggest fan of, and I think a lot of people aren't. I think for me it's more I'm representing my, like, friends and family back home, the people that represented it before me, all the things that I believe are good about the U.S.," Hess said.

"I just think, if it aligns with my moral values, I feel like I'm representing it. Just because I'm wearing the flag doesn't mean I represent everything that's going on in the U.S.," he continued. "So yeah, I just kind of want to do it like for my friends and my family and the people that supported me getting here."

These people.

What's going on is the enforcement of the law for which the American people voted. If you don't want to represent the U.S., then what are you even doing there? The U.S. got you there and is putting you up. You're not there as an independent.

Of course we should be supporting our athletes despite the way a few privileged, sheltered young people might muse about our country; they haven't lives much of their lives, with time for cold reality to hit them in the face yet. There are many more patriotic athletes on the U.S. team, like the men's hockey team. Go, Team USA!
