Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz has a bit of a problem.
Even The New York Times is now highlighting the huge fraud scandal.
A damning quote on Tim Walz’s failure to stop the fraud consuming Minnesota.

"No one was doing anything about the red flags," he said. "It was like someone was stealing money from the cookie jar and they kept refilling it."

Federal prosecutors say that 59 people have been convicted in those schemes so far, and that more than $1 billion in taxpayers’ money has been stolen in three plots they are investigating. That is more than Minnesota spends annually to run its Department of Corrections. Minnesota’s fraud scandal stood out even in the context of rampant theft during the pandemic, when Americans stole tens of billions through unemployment benefits, business loans and other forms of aid, according to federal auditors.
Outrage has swelled among Minnesotans, and fraud has turned into a potent political issue in a competitive campaign season. Gov. Tim Walz and fellow Democrats are being asked to explain how so much money was stolen on their watch, providing Republicans, who hope to take back the governor’s office in 2026, with a powerful line of attack.
Then, an X account apparently representing hundreds of Minnesota Department of Human Services employees leveled him in a long post on Saturday, claiming he was "100% responsible" and accused him of retaliating against whistleblowers.

On Sunday, Walz appeared on Meet the Press with Kristen Welker, who asked him if he took responsibility for failing to stop this fraud in his state. Walz's reply is a perfect example of why he lost in the 2024 election and why the Democrats are such a mess today. He couldn't give a straight answer and then went straight to "but Trump."
Tim Walz is asked about the $1B Somali fraud scandal in Minnesota.

After taking zero responsibility, he attempts to shift blame to Trump.
“There's a big difference between fraud and corruption. And corruption is something he knows about." pic.twitter.com/EgQc88EJxH
Walz claimed he takes responsibility for "putting people in jail." He said governors have to solve problems. He noted that "it's not just Somalis."
But the problem is he hasn't dealt with it. Most of the prosecutions are federal prosecutions, and it's really not a good flex to say it's "not just Somalis." So just how many other people have been getting away with fraud on your watch, Tim?
Then Walz deflected to Trump, claiming he was demonizing Somalis. Walz declared there was a "big difference between fraud and corruption." What the heck is even talking about? Is he trying to minimize fraud?
Bottom line? He didn't really answer the question.
Tim Walz has an unerring ability to say things that don't answer the questions and make him look even worse. Remember how he sunk himself during the debate with Vice President JD Vance, when Walz said he was "friends with school shooters" and that he was a "knucklehead at times."

But if what the Human Services employees are alleging is true, this fraud matter may come back and truly bite him big time.
