(Updated) Breaking: Two National Guard Members Shot Near White House, Conflicting Reports Re: Condition

Update - 4:15 PM Eastern:

Governor Morrisey has now tweeted that they are receiving conflicting reports regarding the condition of the guardsmen who were shot.

We are now receiving conflicting reports about the condition of our two Guard members and will provide additional updates once we receive more complete information. 

Our prayers are with these brave service members, their families, and the entire Guard community.

West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey has now confirmed that both members of the West Virginia National Guard who were shot earlier Wednesday afternoon in Washington, D.C., have died.

It is with great sorrow that we can confirm both members of the West Virginia National Guard who were shot earlier today in Washington, DC have passed away from their injuries. These brave West Virginians lost their lives in the service of their country. We are in ongoing contact with federal officials as the investigation continues.

Our entire state grieves with their families, their loved ones, and the Guard community. West Virginia will never forget their service or their sacrifice, and we will demand full accountability for this horrific act.

Multiple outlets are reporting that two National Guard members have been shot near the White House.

ABC is also confirming two shot, according to their sources.

The Metropolitan Police Department said it is on the scene of a shooting at 17th and I streets.

"Please avoid the area as MPD and our partners work to secure the scene," the MPD wrote on X.

Their condition is unknown at this point. 

Minutes ago, the D.C. police department posted to social media that a suspect is in custody.
