It's hard to imagine a worse debate than the one Virginia Democratic gubernatorial candidate Abigail Spanberger had with Republican Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears earlier this month.
Spanberger was asked whether she would disavow her support for Democratic Attorney General candidate Jay Jones' vile texts envisioning "two bullets" for the Republican former Virginia Speaker of the House of Delegates, Todd Gilbert, and hoping his children would die to make a policy point. But she refused to answer, saying she was "responsible for herself."
MODERATOR: "Will you continue to endorse Jay Jones?"

SPANBERGER: "I'M RESPONSIBLE FOR MYSELF!"

This was horrible.
If fantasizing about murdering a dad and his two boys isn’t enough for Abigail to drop her endorsement of Jay Jones—what is?

Now, in a new podcast interview with Katie Couric that was released on Tuesday, Spanberger's take on that issue was something else. When she was asked about the texts, she did say they were bad, but she repeated that spin that it was up to "individual voters" to decide how to vote on him — without putting her position out there on disavowing him or not. She was upset that she had to answer questions about the texts.
Abigail Spanberger complains about being forced to say that Jay Jones' texts were bad:

“The fact that I have to spend even a moment's time talking about somebody else’s text messages from years ago is something that I am deeply unhappy about.” pic.twitter.com/vWh3i2AS0R
“The fact that I have to spend even a moment's time talking about somebody else’s text messages from years ago, rather than what I want to do as governor, is something that I am deeply unhappy about,” Spanberger complained.
Here's a thought: Maybe if you had taken a position and disavowed Jones as you should have, you wouldn't continue to be asked about it. It isn't complicated. How entitled she sounds, like how dare people ask her about her position on him? And if you don't think you should be having to answer those questions, and your answers on them are so terrible, how do you think you can be governor of Virginia? And, of course, it isn't just Jones' "poor choices" or however she terms it, it's her answering the question on him. It's how that failure to give a real answer reflects on her. That's her "choice."
Her latest take was, understandably, not going over well.

Jay Jones may have wished violence on someone’s children but the real victim here: Abigail Spanberger, and everyone who won’t read her “Grow the Economy” (TM) plan…

We all feel for you in this hour of need. Sorry running for governor is so tough. https://t.co/Aut528B5bb
Abigail is not governor material.
