Los Angeles has been embroiled in anti-ICE riots for the last couple of days.
We've been reporting on a lot of the violence, including assailing a federal detention facility, hurling rocks at agents in cars, blocking their vehicles, damaging property, and even setting vehicles on fire while waving a foreign flag.

Yet what you got from the local officials was failed action. The first statement from Mayor Bass on Friday was encouraging the bad actors. DHS said their building was surrounded, and it took the police two hours to respond to their calls.
Then, on Saturday, President Donald Trump announced that he would be calling out the National Guard to deal with the chaos, as California had failed to do so. Rather than saying thank you, California Gov. Gavin Newsom threw a tantrum, saying such an action would "erode trust" in the Guard.

But the statement from the Los Angeles Police Department truly capped it off late Saturday. Here's what the LAPD said about what happened on Saturday.

"Today, demonstrations across the city of Los Angeles remained peaceful, and we commend all those who exercised their First Amendment rights responsibly," they claimed. They thanked participants and organizers for their "cooperation" in helping ensure public safety.
They said the protests concluded "without incident." But hey, they're prepared for any "potential acts of civil unrest."
They remain committed, "Our commitment to safeguarding the rights, safety, and wellbeing of all Angelenos continues - day and night. We will maintain a heightened readiness posture and remain ready to ensure the continued safety of our communities."
They will be on "heightened readiness" to "ensure continued safety."
That got a storm of reaction from people on X who couldn't believe that they released such a tone-deaf statement.

While most of the action on Saturday was in Paramount and Compton, areas of Los Angeles County not covered by the LAPD, the LAPD was acting like it was a picnic at the beach day. Notice what isn't there in the statement is the violence the day before, for example, around the federal detention facility, which is in the city.
They also cut off the comments — so much for caring about what the people think. People were excoriating them in quote tweets.
Then what happened shortly after they issued the statement? After they praised the "participants"? They had a problem they couldn't deny.
Multiple people were detained after reentering an area the Los Angeles Police Department had ordered them to leave, the department said.
"Those detained will be arrested and booked for failing to disperse from an area where an unlawful assembly was ordered," the department’s Central Division said in a statement posted on social media at midnight.
An order to disperse had been issued about three hours prior.
The division said "multiple" people were detained on Alameda Street between Aliso and Temple streets, which are near the local office of the U.S. Justice Department, on the eastern side of Downtown Los Angeles.
So much for that cooperation.
