Trump Teases a Couple of Names When Asked About VP, Decimates Biden and Newsom

In an interview with Fox's Maria Bartiromo Sunday, former President Donald Trump outlined some of his achievements while in office and what his priorities would be should he win a new term. Then, for good measure, he decimated Joe Biden and Gavin Newsom. He also teased two names when asked about his choice of a vice-presidential running mate.

Trump spoke about the changes he brought to border security when he was in office, that we had a secure border as opposed to what we have now. That was despite the Democrats doing everything they could to try to stop him and throw roadblocks in his way. That's one of the reasons he ranks much higher in the public's eyes on the border issue than does Joe Biden. He reminded people about the deals he worked with Mexico helped to increase that security. I wrote at the time the deal was not only for Mexico to do more at our Southern border but also their Southern border, helping to make Mexico more of a "wall."

Trump referenced a trade and security agreement signed in 2019.

The agreement states that "Mexico will take unprecedented steps to-increase enforcement to curb irregular migration" following threats by Trump to impose new tariffs on Mexican imports.

He detailed how the Trump administration defeated ISIS, had no new wars, cut taxes and regulations, and how much those policies helped to provide a great economy.

It's a stark reminder compared to what we have now under Joe Biden, where the economy and the world is in chaos.

Then he outlined things he would do if he won. First on his list was"drill, baby, drill" to bring down energy costs, as well as securing the border because no country was sustainable without a secure border.

When asked about how he would deal with the indictments he was facing, Trump said he didn't think he'd be dealing with indictments if he wasn't running again or "if he was in fifth place." He made it clear that he thought they were trying to take him out because they were afraid he could win.

Then he spoke about how bad Biden had been for the country because of his incompetence, that everything was a mess.

"You have a very good chance in that period of time of having World War III because we have somebody that is not doing his job properly," Trump declared about Biden. "He's not respected. He's laughed at all over the world. He's not doing a good job." As he made those comments, the chyron listed the inflation costs of Biden: food up 33.7 percent, shelter 18.7 percent, and energy 32.8 percent. It's hard to imagine why anyone would vote for Biden with a record like that.

Trump also took on Gavin Newsom, who some believe is champing at the bit to replace Biden if the opportunity presented himself. Bartiromo asked about him and Trump said yes, he didn't think that it was going to Biden ultimately but he didn't know. But he decimated Newsom, just as he had taken down Biden. When Bartiromo asked how he would do against Newsom, he detailed all the problems in California.

"He's so much bullsh*t," Trump exclaimed. He said he thought "Gavin's easy because California's a disaster" and he's been a "horrible governor." He pointed to the homeless problem, and how people and companies are fleeing the state.

Then he teased some possible names when Bartiromo asked who he would pick for Vice President. That's a hot topic because people are going to want someone who will help to clean house and who understands the issues that we're facing, who isn't an establishment-type. Previously the evidence seemed to point in the direction that he might have been thinking about Lee Zeldin.

But he told Bartiromo he wasn't going to announce his decision for a while. He said his first obligation was to pick someone who could be a good president.

"Always it's gotta be who is going to be a good president. Obviously you always have to think that, because in case of emergency. Things happen, right? No matter who you are, things happen. That's gotta be number one," Trump responded.

When pressed about the choice, he said he had a lot of good people to choose from.

He spoke about two people he thought highly of -- Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) and South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem, although he did not say he was going to pick one of them. He noted Scott seemed to be a better advocate for him than he had been for himself, which is something I thought interesting too. Previously, the tea leaves suggested that he might have picked Lee Zeldin. But he also said at that time that he was looking at everyone and the choice he was thinking about wasn't necessarily a final choice.
