Remember Chris Matthews and how he had a "tingle" running up his leg for Barack Obama?
How'd that work out for the country? I think it's safe to say, not very well.
But he's trying to sell something else now, and it's a window into why liberals are so clueless about middle America and the right.
My colleague Jeff Charles reported on what Matthews said earlier this week about "rural rage" brewing; Matthews compares dealing with it to "fighting terrorism."

Did we miss Chris Matthews? On Morning Joe on Tuesday, he somehow took "rural rage" over elitists like "SNL" mocking Trump, and said "it's a weird thing -- in a way, it's like fighting terrorism" in Iraq or Afghanistan.

“But I tell you, it’s very tough, because people that didn’t go to college have a pretty good rage on their hands. That’s what you really want in an election, is a rage. It can be black rage, or white rage, or rural rage. In this case, it’s rural rage. They are so angry at the liberal establishment, the coastal elite,” Matthews said.
“But in a way, it’s like fighting terrorism,” he added. “I mean, you know, we think we just put the Army in, or Israel just puts the IDF and they’re going to solve the problem. It never solves the problem. Because you enrage people. And we did it with Afghanistan, and we did it with Iraq. We enrage the enemy to the point where they’re more fiery than ever, and they hate us more than ever. Armies don’t make peace. And we think they do.”
Jeff wrote about the disdain that liberal elites like Matthews and others have for rural America, "those people that didn't go to college" (it's "who" didn't go to college, Chris). But Matthews and others who did go to college show their ignorance every day with issues of import to the nation. Take, for example, the responses of the Ivy League presidents on dealing with antisemitism, and how much college has become a propaganda field and recruitment drive for leftist activism. It prompted Bill Maher -- more of a classical liberal -- to encourage people not to go to college.
Their elitism and condescension are all the worse because they are so wrong in what they believe, as Ronald Reagan said.

But instead of listening to the American people and taking the polls as an indication, we are told by the liberal elite like Matthews and Joe Biden that we just don't understand--when they're the ones who are wrong.

Yes, people are angry that that elitism which is masking radical leftism is so harmful to the country and their lives. Yet, what they get from the liberals who want to be in charge, like Hillary Clinton, is that they are "deplorable." Joe Biden paints middle America as full of dangerous extremists in his shameful Philadelphia speech. Now, Matthews acknowledges that's how they view so many Americans.

Chances that they understand the American people or terrorism for that matter, when Matthews makes such an analogy? Zero. The comparison is disgusting and using the term "enemy" tells you where his head is. But in both cases, he fails to understand. The simple answer to the American people demanding action is to listen to what they want. But the left doesn't want to do that because it rarely meets with their political agenda for control. The answer to terrorism is to take out the terrorists, not coddle them or make ceasefires with them. But that's, again, something liberals don't seem to get. Notice Matthews says fighting back makes them madder. Not taking them out completely means you have years of violent upheaval, as Israel has shown. Israel kept making offers for peace, and every offer was met with an attack.
The comparison is also stupid because Biden desperately needs votes from Middle America. But he's not only in trouble with them, he's in trouble with virtually every group that he needs to have to win. He's hemorrhaging support. So naturally, the thing to do is to have Matthews insult Americans a bit more. That should work and flip them to Biden.
But this is a window into liberal thought, which isn't about understanding what you or Middle America thinks but is always and only about their agenda and maintaining control.
