We’ve been bringing you information about the investigation into comedian/actor Bob Saget’s death. We previously noted that part of the problem in the case is trying to figure out exactly how he got the severe head injuries that they found in the autopsy. The authorities had previously speculated that maybe he hit his head on the headboard of the bed.

Now, there’s new information out in a report on the investigation from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.

In a new report released Tuesday, officials say that during the autopsy, conducted by Chief Medical Examiner Joshua Stephany, M.D., the late comedian was found to have a fracture near the base of his skull that the autopsy report said was consistent with evidence suggesting he experienced bleeding around the brain.

“He explained that the amount of force necessary to cause the fracture, coupled with the fact that the skin on the back of the head was still intact, led him to believe that the injury was most likely caused by ‘something hard, covered by something soft,’ and he gave, as an example, a fall onto a carpeted floor,” Fox 35 in Orlando reported of the report on Tuesday.

Okay, that explains the fracture at the base of the skull, but then what’s the explanation for the fractured orbits? If you fell and hit the back of your head on the floor, you still have to have something that would have had the significant force to cause those fractures. So, you still have to have something that accounts for that. I think that’s the problem, and they still can’t quite explain it.

The report states that they ruled out countertops, nightstands, tables and other hard furniture because they all had sharp, defined edges that did not match his injuries. They did note, however, that the entire room was carpeted.

“The headboard of the bed was lightly padded and set slightly out from the wall. These are listed here as possible mechanisms of injury, but nothing was located in the room that allows for a definitive conclusion,” the report states.

Bottom line? They’re not really sure what the answer is. He was found in his bed. They didn’t find any blood or anything that appeared to be amiss which was why they believed he died of natural causes. He wasn’t drunk, and there were no illicit substances involved.

They do have a picture taken by the valet who parked his car, which he took with Bob Saget after the actor/comedian got back to the hotel from his gig. So, it had to be shortly before he went to his room for the night. He appears to be okay in the picture.

But the report also revealed something else that hasn’t come out before.

Another new detail shared in OCSC’s final report is that a door inside of Saget’s room leading to the adjoining Room 961 was unlocked when his body was discovered.

According to the report, the room was vacant at the time and had been cleaned. However, police say there was “no sign” anyone had occupied the room from between the time Saget returned to the hotel in the early hours of Jan. 9 and police finding him dead later that morning.

That is new, and why hasn’t it come out before?

Now, the judge in the matter has ruled that the local authorities will be permanently blocked from releasing some of the photos, videos, and other records that are part of the case, at the request of the family. They said they don’t want things like autopsy photos out there.
