Paging Dems and the NBA: If You're Carrying Water for China, This Is What You're Ignoring Now

In this photo released by China’s Xinhua News Agency, Chinese President Xi Jinping, right, is briefed about the Huoshenshan Hospital in Wuhan in central China’s Hubei Province, Tuesday, March 10, 2020. China’s president visited the center of the global virus outbreak Tuesday as Italy began a sweeping nationwide travel ban and people worldwide braced for the possibility of recession. For most people, the new coronavirus causes only mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough. For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia. (Xie Huanchi/Xinhua via AP)

When President Donald Trump pointed out that China’s actions helped to spread the Wuhan coronavirus to the rest of the world, a fairly obvious and indisputable point, he was accused of being “racist” or “xenophobic” by Democrats.

But we’re curious as to what those Democrats as well as the NBA, who bent over backward not to offend China, think about the latest reports about how black people are being treated in China right now.

China has been trying to pretend that they’ve completely beaten the Wuhan coronavirus they’ve spread to the world. But in perhaps a bit of an ironic twist, they may have gotten a new cluster of cases in Guangzhou that may have come from returning Chinese nationals and African visitors. 16 of the 114 new cases are Africans.

Now, all kinds of racism are being directed at black people in China, including Africans and African-Americans.

Africans have reported being forced from their homes, according to France 24.

“I’ve been sleeping under the bridge for four days with no food to eat… I cannot buy food anywhere, no shops or restaurants will serve me,” said Tony Mathias, an exchange student from Uganda who was forced from his apartment on Monday.

“We’re like beggars on the street,” the 24-year-old said.

Mathias added that police had given him no information about testing or quarantine but instead told him “to go to another city”.

Mandatory testing is being ordered for some people and self-quarantine.

Even if people are given tests, the police still aren’t letting them stay in their homes, according to Nigerian trader, Denny. He is now sleeping on the street.

African-Americans have reported being refused service in restaurants and hotels.

From AP:

U.S. Embassy security alert on Saturday said that “police ordered bars and restaurants not to serve clients who appear to be of African origin,” and local officials have launched mandatory testing and self-quarantine for “anyone with ‘African contacts.’”

That’s in response to a rise in virus infections in Guangzhou, the U.S. said, adding that “African-Americans have also reported that some businesses and hotels refuse to do business with them.” The U.S. statement is titled “Discrimination against African-Americans in Guangzhou.”

The U.S. State Department is now advising African-Americans to avoid Guangzhou.

Meanwhile, nothing to see here, according to the government. Of course.

“I want to emphasize that the Chinese government treats all foreigners in China equally,” said spokesman Zhao Lijian. According to Zhao, the local officials just need to “improve their working mechanisms”.

Exactly. Do the Democrats or the NBA think they “have enough information” yet to weigh on this?
