The Wall Street Journal reports that Hunter Biden failed the drug test last year and was discharged in February. In a statement issued Thursday, Oct. 16, Biden doesn’t say why he was discharged. He says he’s embarrassed that his actions led to his discharge and that he respects the Navy’s decision. The vice president’s office declined to comment.(AP Photo/Nick Wass, File)

Joe Biden may have reinvigorated his campaign with a much-needed win in South Carolina, but now he faces a tough fight on Super Tuesday with Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) having the edge in many states, including the critical state of California, a prize worth 416 delegates.

But the albatross of Ukraine and his son’s activities there are still out there.

It’s may be about to get more focus again with news that the Senate is sending out their first subpoena looking into Burisma and the Bidens.

According to the Daily Caller, Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI), the Chair of the Homeland Security Committee is sending out a subpoena for Andrii Telizhenko, a former Ukrainian embassy official and former consultant for Blue Star Strategies, a firm that Burisma hired to fight against corruption allegations.

Johnson said Telizhenko had already provided some documents, but can’t turn over others without a subpoena because of non-disclosure agreements.

Hunter Biden, who joined Burisma’s board in April 2014, is reportedly who linked the energy company up with Blue Star Strategies. Biden served on the board of the Truman National Security Project, a liberal national security think tank, with Sally Painter, one of Blue Star’s co-founders.

“As part of the Committee’s ongoing investigation, it has received U.S. government records indicating that Blue Star sought to leverage Hunter Biden’s role as a board member of Burisma to gain access to, and potentially influence matters at, the State Department,” Johnson said in the letter.

State Department records show that Painter and her Blue Star co-founder, Karen Tramontano, reached out to top State Department officials through 2016 to set up meetings to discuss Ukraine and Burisma.

Painter sent an email to Tony Blinken who was then a deputy secretary of state in June 2016, asking for a meeting. Blinken is now a foreign policy adviser to Joe Biden’s presidential campaign.

Tramontano also sent an email to the State Department on Feb. 24, 2016, trying to meet over Burisma saying that she wanted to get “a better understanding of how the U.S. came to the determination that [Burisma] is corrupt.” She also dropped Hunter Biden’s name as connected to Burisma.

The timing on that email is particularly interesting because Viktor Shokin, the prosecutor in Ukraine, had raided the home of the founder of Burisma, Mykola Zlochevsky on Feb. 2 and seized property. The prosecutor was then fired in March. The February email and request for meeting was right in the middle of that period, raising the question if there was over action to protect Burisma.

Looks like there may be more stuff coming and this may get pretty interesting, if Biden is still in the race as this develops.
