Donald Trump is quivering like a scared chihuahua in a thunderstorm

Little toy dogs don’t handle thunderstorms well, and neither is Donald Trump handling the newest polling like a mature adult.

Trump knows the trend is awful for him, suggesting he’s squandered his lead by putting his foot in his mouth one too many times, and giving away what was once a yuge poll advantage, right into the hands of Ted Cruz. So he’s lashing out.

His last attempted attack on Ted Cruz was ridiculous, but now he’s just sounding like a deranged Internet commenter as he goes birther, again, saying of Cruz birther theories:

Trump added: “I’d hate to see something like that get in his way. But a lot of people are talking about it and I know that even some states are looking at it very strongly, the fact that he was born in Canada and he has had a double passport.”

As Aaron Gardner has astutely pointed out, one of the steady habits Trump has is to put his thesis at the end of his statements. He starts off with a lot of blather, but ends with the words he wants you to remember. “The fact that…” is the point of all that folksy bumbling filler. Like many New York television types, he gets his scripts written intelligently.

So this is what the mighty Trump campaign has become: shivering in a blanket scared of the loud polls marking the arrival of Ted Cruz. It’s almost sad.
