CNN reports that [mc_name name=’Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY)’ chamber=’senate’ mcid=’P000603′ ] will be at the next debate on Tuesday night, and Mike Huckabee will not. Apparently, there was a last-minute poll that allowed Rand to survive the cut. Currently, the line up is (in alphabetical order) Bush, Carson, Christie, Cruz, Fiorina, Kasich, Paul, Rubio, and Trump. And there are at least three people on that stage that should give serious consideration to gracefully bowing out at this point. Alternatively, the RNC should gently suggest to the networks that the time has come to limit the debate participants to seven, or even five. Also: I think that the undercard debate has served its day. It worked better than I thought that it would, but it has served its day.

PS: This is an exceedingly strange way to run a debate schedule. Strange, and legitimately confusing. Let’s not do it this way again, eight years from now.
