'I'm Supposed to Be Dead': Grateful Trump Goes Bottom Line About 'Surreal' Assassination Attempt

Former President Donald Trump exemplified a rare level of courage that few people are put in a position to show, on Saturday, moments after being shot by a would-be assassin, as he rose to his feet after wisely hitting the deck after being hit, likely saving his life.

Trump defiantly pumped his fist in the air, multiple times, as he was ushered off the stage stage by Secret Service agents, as if to show the faithful and the world that he not only survived; but more importantly that he was more than ready to continue his campaign to unseat Joe Biden.

On Sunday, Trump said in an exclusive interview with the New York Post, aboard Trump One while en route to Milwaukee for the Republican National Convention, that he was "supposed to be dead," as he recalled the "very surreal experience."

The doctor at the hospital said he never saw anything like this, he called it a miracle. I’m not supposed to be here, I’m supposed to be dead ... I’m supposed to be dead.

By luck or by God, many people are saying it’s by God I’m still here.

Some would argue that Donald Trump is very much supposed to be alive, including commentators over the weekend and on Monday who spoke of "Divine Intervention" and such things.

Whatever the reason, Donald Trump is very much alive.

Trump told The Post he wouldn't be here if hadn't turned his head slightly to the right to "read a chart" about illegal aliens. At that instant, he said, as have others, what would have been a kill shot instead tore off a piece of his ear, which splattered blood on his forehead and streaked along his right cheek.

The former president also praised Secret Service agents who came flying in like “linebackers” as the shooting started, as well as agents who took out the would-be assassin.

They took him out with one shot right between the eyes. They did a fantastic job. It’s surreal for all of us.

Donald being Donald, he also took a moment to describe the "iconic" picture taken soon after Secret Service agents helped him to his feet and led him off stage.

A lot of people say it’s the most iconic photo they’ve ever seen. They’re right and I didn’t die. Usually you have to die to have an iconic picture. I just wanted to keep speaking, but I just got shot.

Indeed he did get shot, but he was up instant and determined to take back this country after Joe Biden has done his damnedest to destroy the America we grew up loving.

Trump said his brush with death changed his mind about the speech he will give Thursday to accept the GOP nomination for the third consecutive time.

I had all prepared an extremely tough speech, really good, all about the corrupt, horrible administration. But I threw it away.

The former said he was rewriting his speech because: “I want to try to unite our country. But I don’t know if that’s possible. People are very divided.”

The Bottom Line

I don't think it's possible to unite this country, at least not at this point, but that's another article for another time. Yet I do believe Donald Trump wants to make it happen. Perhaps being mere millimeters from death gives one new perspective.
