Wyoming GOP Begins Throwing Liz Cheney Under the Bus in Classic Trumpian Style

Needless to say, 2021 has been a rough year for Wyoming’s lone congressional representative, Liz Cheney (R?). Cheney’s path to political implosion began with her vote to impeach Donald Trump, earlier this year.

And when Cheney agreed to sit on the House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol — which everyone on the planet knows will amount to little more than a Nancy Pelosi kangaroo court and that she will use the “investigation” to level ridiculously trumped-up (obvious pun intended) charges against Trump and the “insurrectionists” (are we still calling them that?) — Cheney became a dead congresswoman walking.

As reported by USAFeatures.news, county-level Republican parties in Wyoming are beginning to abandon Cheney ahead of the 2022 midterm primaries over her ongoing criticism of Trump and her participation on Pelosi’s committee. The state has 23 counties, most of which are very rural. While county votes are largely symbolic, they represent growing displeasure from state party officials toward Cheney.

Cheney has left zero doubt about her disdain for Trump. In comments on the House floor in May, she said:

“Remaining silent and ignoring the emboldens the liar. I will not sit back and watch in silence while others … join the former president’s campaign to undermine our democracy.”

Bed made. Again.

Meanwhile, back in Wyoming, it’s now game on.

Republican officials in Park and Carbon counties recently sent letters to the embattled congresswoman which left no doubt about their degree of displeasure with what amounts to Cheney’s continuing Stage 4 TDS-driven obsession with all things blasting Trump. And they did so in classic you-know-who style:

“In the immortal words of the 45th President of the United States of America, Donald J. Trump …’You’re Fired!’”

Any questions, Liz?

Additional context, via USAFeatures.news:

The county GOP letters also come after the state Republican Party voted overwhelmingly to censure Cheney in February for her impeachment vote.

And in May, congressional Republicans voted, again overwhelmingly, to remove Cheney as chair of the House Republican Conference, the No. 3 position within the party in that chamber, after she kept up her critique of Trump and continued to blame him for the Capitol breach.

So far, seven Republicans have lined up to challenge Cheney during next year’s primary. Trump has said he will back one of them against her. State Senators Chuck Gray and Anthony Bouchard have already announced they will run against her.

USAFeatures.news reported in late July that Trump will meet with some of Cheney’s primary challengers prior to next year’s Republican primary and the midterms. Trump himself has been “less than shy” in his continuing “colorful” condemnation of Cheney, as noted by USAFeatures.news. In a statement issued through his political action committee, Save America, the former president recently took a few Trumpian shots at his nemesis:

“Paying close attention to the Wyoming House Primary against loser RINO Liz Cheney. Some highly respected pollsters tell me she’s toast in Wyoming after siding with Crazy Nancy Pelosi and supporting the Democrat Impeachment Hoax.”

Also, in pure Donald style, a personal attack:

“Liz Cheney is a bitter, horrible human being. She has no personality or anything good having to do with politics or our country.”

Incidentally, as reported by Lachlan Markay of Axios, both Cheney and Rep. Adam Kinsinger (R-IL) — Cheney’s fellow Trump-loathing Congressional Republican — have been taking in “yuuge” amounts of campaign cash.

The bottom line.

Say what you want about Liz Cheney. Love her or hate her. In an ironic sense, she is a mirror image of Trump himself in terms of her standing within the Republican Party.

From the outset of Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign, in the eyes Never-Trumper Republicans, Trump can do no right. He could singlehandedly cure cancer and the Never-Trumpers would throw him under the bus for putting oncologists out of work. On the other hand, in the eyes of the Always-Trumpers, Trump can do no wrong. They defend, justify, rationalize, dismiss, or ignore his “missteps.” He said it himself during a 2016 campaign stop:

“I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody, and I wouldn’t lose any voters, OK? It’s, like, incredible.”

Was he joking? Of course, he was. But behind all humor lies an element of truth — or a joke isn’t funny.

In Liz Cheney’s case, the roles of the above two groups are flipped.

And the rest of the bottom line? Both groups are full of crap. About both Trump and Cheney.

No one is right all the time; no one is wrong all the time. Not even Donald Trump or Liz Cheney.
