'I Was Simply Wrong About Trump': Ben Shapiro Announces 3 Reasons On Board the Trump Train This Time Around

Conservative commentator and Daily Wire founder Ben Shapiro was not a fan of Donald Trump in 2016. That was then and this is now. Shapiro announced on Monday that he will vote for Trump on election day — and he listed three reasons he’s doing so.

“There are three reasons I’m going to vote for Donald Trump in 2020 when I didn’t four years ago,” Shapiro explained, as reported by Fox News.

Shapiro was his typical direct self as he outlined why he finally boarded the Trump Train.

“First, I was simply wrong about Donald Trump on policy. Second, I wasn’t really wrong about Donald Trump on character, but whatever damage he was going to do, he’s already done, and it’s not going to help if I don’t vote for him this time. And third, most importantly, the Democrats have lost their f***ing minds.”

Of particular importance to Shapiro is how Trump has handled tax reform, foreign policy and national security, and pro-life issues.

“I thought he would not be conservative in his governance,” Shapiro said. “I was just wrong on that.”

How refreshing. A political analyst saying “You know what, guys? I was wrong. Now that that’s over, I’ll do the right thing.”

Shapiro also talked about Trump’s “character,” which I must say from personal experience has been at the top of the list of reasons many of my Never-Trumper conservative friends have stubbornly refused to support the president.

“I have been very clear on my feelings about Donald Trump’s character. I have serious reservations to say the least […] you don’t have to like Trump’s character, you don’t have to love his Twitter account to vote for him.

“You don’t have to approve of the crazy or bad things that he says or the way he often acts.”

I could spend the rest of the day harping on this very issue. Call me crazy, but I didn’t vote for Trump as a moral compass in my life; I have other resources for that purpose.

Trump’s Twitter habits, including his sophomoric name-calling, have driven me up the wall from time to time as well. The reason being I’ve never believed Trump has had the luxury of only preaching to the choir — only focusing on, let’s be honest, the die-hard Trumpers. Independent voters — particularly women — are going to be critical for Trump if he is going to win re-election.

But to Shapiro’s point, to paraphrase Hillary, what difference does it make? That is, vs. the alternative? Some of us might not like Trump’s Twitter habits and whatever else, but all of it combined, times ten, beats the hell out of Joe Biden in the White House. Kudos to Ben for coming around to that realization, as well.

Shapiro concluded the below message this way: “If you care about the Constitution, and economic freedom, and the security of the United States, you really don’t have a whole hell of a lot of choice. You should vote for Trump.”

Amen, brother Ben.

Oh, and one other thing Shapiro said struck me. Donald Trump is “the first president of my lifetime not to start any new wars.”

Again, amen, Ben.
