The Purge? Donald Trump Unveils 2020 Re-Election Slogan

Have you seen “The Purge: Election Year”? It’s kind of like that. In fact it’s exactly like that, Donald Trump has revealed in an interview with the Washington Post, that his 2020 re-election campaign slogan will be, “Keep America Great”.

“Keep America Great” was the tagline for the 2016 movie, “The Purge: Election Year”, the third in the movie in ‘The Purge’ franchise. The movies are set in a dystopian future, where for 12 hours each year, all crime is legal. The city melts down into all the chaos you’d expect. If you’re unfamiliar, watch the trailer.

Things may not exactly be as they seem, though. It appears The Purge: Election Year was inspired by Donald Trump and the entire 2016 Presidential election, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

It seems like this is just one giant circle. The Purge: Election Year writer and director James DeMonaco previously told Entertainment Weekly that his film was, of course, influenced by the 2016 election year.

“Little things drip into you when you’re writing or you’re on set — you’re grabbing from the ether or what’s out there in the press,” DeMonaco told EW. I think there’s a lot of representation of everyone who’s in the game right now, from Donald Trump to Hillary Clinton to Bernie Sanders to John Kasich. I’d like the audience to play with it and see who they feel is representative of the actual candidates in the real world, without me saying who’s who.”

Considering the tag, “Keep America Great” was borrowed from Donald Trump’s own, slogan, creatively it’s hard to say who borrowed from who here. It’s life imitating art, imitating life or something.
