There's this scene from the show The Newsroom where Jeff Daniels delivers a monologue that leftists always watch whenever they need to feel encouraged and vindicated about their hatred of their own country.
You probably know which one I'm talking about. He's on stage and is asked, "Why is America the greatest country in the world?" This leads Daniels' character, Will McAvoy, to tell everyone that America used to be, but now it's not, because we have failings.
One of which is that too many people think Angels are real.

Why do I bring up this scene?
Because this is, in my opinion, the sentiment that Democrats have been trying to sell to the people for decades: that America is flawed to the point of being so terrible that you should not feel pride in it. In fact, it should make you angry. You should be disgusted with it! We used to be a great country, and the only way to get back to that is if you vote Democrat!
This sentiment was pounded into the heads of the young to the point where radicalism became complete normalcy. To be disgusted by America while supporting all the leftist causes because it's trendy to do so makes you enlightened. You see through the veil of patriotic nonsense you're supposed to feel whenever you look at the red, white, and blue.
You should burn it in protest.

America has its issues. It's not a perfect country... but it is the best country in the world. That's a demonstrable fact that can't be denied. Even our failings are made up for in other ways, and if they aren't — sit tight — because a revolutionary new technology or system will be along shortly to fix the issue. Patriots believe in America, not because it's perfect, but because we have faith that this country has the capability of overcoming adversity in ways that are sometimes miraculous. There are no holds except those we place on ourselves, and while those holds do often live longer than they should, we eventually remove them.
We'll do it with a social war if we have to. One time, we did it with a real one.
However, the strategy of Democrats was to take voters' eyes off that simple fact. They wanted people to focus on what America does wrong, and that Daniels speech is a reflection of that.
They want you to see this country as racist, sexist, homophobic, classist, xenophobic, and all the rest of the tripe you hear out of people who think neon colored hair and a dozen piercings is a solid fashion choice. Democrats fed this to the population because if they could convince you that America was sick, and they could fix it, then you'd vote for them.
They would appeal to your conscience, your guilt, and your anger. They especially loved to play on your fear.
And to be honest, it worked. In fact, it worked so well that Democrats controlled our government over the last few decades for the vast majority of the time, with a few interruptions here and there.
But that was only going to work for so long. You can't continue to feed that kind of fear and loathing into people without them going somewhat mad. When you constantly rely on histrionics and taking things up to 11 to manipulate people, eventually the people most affected by it will think 11 is the norm, and they'll start expecting that kind of dedication from the people who took them there.
The thing is, Democrats rarely ever believed any of the panic they were trying to spread; they just needed you to think things were that bad so you'd pull the lever. However, the beast they fed for decades is hungrier than ever, and guess who it's eating now?
As my colleague Katie Jerkovich wrote on Tuesday, polls are now showing that even Democrats think the Democrat Party has become too extreme:
When asked, "Do you think the Democratic Party has become too radical in its views and policies?"
The answer:
A strong plurality of 45% of all poll respondents said yes, while 36% said no, and another 18% said they weren't sure. The poll's margin of error is +/-2.7 percentage points.
As can be expected, party affiliation resulted in differing thoughts on the matter:
Among Democrats, for instance, 64% answered "no," while 22% said "yes." Republicans were quite different, as befits the current political schism, with just 16% noes and 73% yesses. Independents were at a 40% plurality for yes, and 33% no, with a hefty 27% not sure.

We're seeing "The Boy Who Cried Wolf" play out in real time here. At this point, most people are shrugging off the Democrat Party, and while the pendulum swings, the real issue is that you have people who want to be convinced the sky is falling. Their entire identity revolves around the idea that it is... because Democrats told them it was.
The Democrat Party created this monster. Now it has to watch as it eats the party alive, and if this pattern Jerkovich pointed out holds, then Democrats will be slowly eaten in isolation. It's what the party deserves for its divisiveness and hatred that it spread. It spent so much time turning Americans against each other, making them afraid, lying to them, and looking down on them, that they deserve to be consumed by the thing they fostered.
