Dave Chappelle, Chris Rock: SNL's Election Night

It was a Historic week on Saturday Night Live as Dave Chappelle and Chris Rock made appearances on the late night comedy show. Many viewers anticipated this SNL for the host, Chappelle and to see just how a bunch of white New York Liberals would respond to the election results. While Chapelle did a thoughtful opening, with the usual candor and insight he is so well known for, it was the election night skit that was the highlight of the show.

As a room full of white liberal Hillary Clinton supporters are watching the returns come in on election night, the cast, specifically Chappelle and Rock are spot on in their assessment of how we all pictured their ‘election watch’ parties going down. At 6pm the Clinton supporters are reveling in their “historic victory” before it happens, as Chappelle’s character is more skeptical to say the least.

The liberals are shocked as Donald Trump pulls ahead of Clinton as the night wears on, while Chapelle and Rock’s characters take an entirely different approach. While the Clinton voters question the wisdom of Slate and Huffington Post as their emotion meltdown unfolds, the two black characters find amusement in the faux oppression.

Chris Rock brings somes stone cold truth as the hysterica unfolds:

Aidy Bryant asks: “Why aren’t people turning out for Hillary the way they did for Barack Obama?”

“I mean, maybe because you’re replacing a charismatic 40-year-old black guy with a 70-year-old white woman,” Rock explains, “That’s like the Knicks replacing Patrick Ewing with Neil Patrick Harris.”

Dave Chappelle nails the general attitude of all voters whether he realized it or not as he mocked the ladies, for their fear for the “undocumented immigrants”.

Chappelle: “C’mon now. They’re not going anywhere You act like everybody tryna pick their own strawberries”

The mockery of the white liberals was best delivered by these scathing black comics as they were able to bring the ridiculousness of the “White Fright” to it’s best possible end. Chappelle and Rock exchange some classic one liners as only the two of them can do, racial charged with biting wit. The skit closes With Rock telling the ladies to “Get some rest…You got a big day of moping and writing on Facebook tomorrow.”

For once SNL got the “tone” just right.
