'Common Sense' Gun Control Isn't Common Sense - It's Purely About Control and Removal

When it comes to gun control, one need look no further than blue states and Democrats across the country. They are all on the same page when it comes to the topic of guns, accessibility to guns, and controlling them under the guise of "safety." Here in California, gun control is the number one talking point of the Democrat politicians, outside of homelessness and the environment. Nothing will elicit a guttural and angry reaction from them quite like the topic of gun control.

The one thing they always tell you, of course, is that it's all about public safety, or the children, or the "need" for certain types of guns not to exist. They will tell you that they support the Second Amendment until they are blue in the face. However, the word that gets ignored is the word mentioned immediately after "Amendment": "but." They always say "We support the Second Amendment, BUT we want (insert gun control phrase here) this or that."

The buzzwords of gun control never get old for the people who use them. But the ones they use most often are designed to confuse or distract from their ultimate goal. It's not "common sense," it's not about public safety, it is only about control. Governor Gavin Newsom loves to tout California's extreme gun control laws as an example of success, but when faced with the reality that California leads the nation in mass shootings, Newsom and Democrats double down on restricting your rights.

When California passed its "Bruen Response Bill," which effectively banned the carry of concealed firearms in the state — a blatant violation of the Bruen decision by SCOTUS — it showed the nation that it isn't about common sense or public safety, it's purely about control and elimination. And the arguments used to justify the law make absolutely no sense.

Reading the arguments defending their insanity reminds me of a scene in the movie "Billy Madison."

Doubling down on their insanity — or disregard for the Second Amendment, but probably both — a new California law passed in September of 2023  adds an 11 percent tax on all firearms and ammunition sold in California.

AB 28 will put in place an excise tax of 11 percent on all firearm and ammunition sales, which would increase the price of guns and ammo across the state. California is now the only state in the nation that has added an excise tax on firearms and ammunition on top of the existing 10-11 percent federal excise tax on firearms and ammunition.

California is sending a clear and concise message to gun stores and gun owners: They will price you out of buying anything in California, and they will do whatever they have to do to ensure that businesses that deal in any firearm-related products get taxed and regulated out of business.

Not to be outdone, California has no shortage of blue state allies doubling down on the idiocy of gun control: Enter the state of Washington. Washington state has a slate of gun control laws similar to California's, and their newest proposal mimics a newly passed law here in CA, but it takes it much further.

...gun stores will be required to install enhanced security measures. These include bars, grates, or commercial-grade metal doors on all exterior doors and windows. Firearms dealers will also have to install security alarm systems with remote monitoring and real-time surveillance capabilities.

Gun stores will also have to secure all of their firearms in locked containers or display cases during business hours. Outside of business hours, they will have to store them in a locked, fireproof safe or vault.

Again, there is no "common sense" about this unless you're only talking about taking away or, at the very least, pricing people out of being able to own or buy ammo for their guns. If you are looking for common sense in their arguments in support of what they are doing, again, you will find nothing close to common sense at all. What they are talking about is plain and simple: control and removal of your ability to own, carry, and or shoot your gun. No training, no recreational shooting, no hunting with firearms, none at all. That is their end goal.
