Israel's Ambassador to the UN Blasts Hamas: 'We Are Witnessing Blatant, Barbaric War Crimes'

United Nations.

Gilad Menashe Erdan, Israel's Ambassador to the United Nations, gave a gut-wrenching statement and update regarding the massive terror attacks waged by Hamas on Israel yesterday. Erdan's statements were hard-hitting and emotional and illustrated the raw anger felt by an obviously shocked nation.

Erdan demanded an immediate hearing from the Security Council, along with an international response that unequivocally condemns Hamas and their supporters. He updated the still-growing death toll from the attacks and said that "hundreds" of innocent lives were lost and over 100 hundred hostages were taken. The death toll is expected to rise yet higher as Israeli Forces begin to retake and secure areas that were overrun by Hamas militants.

A few of Erdan's comments:

"As the Security Council prepares to meet today, Israel has one sole demand: Hamas' war crimes must be unequivocally condemned ... Israel must be given steadfast support to defend ourselves, to defend the free world."

"Economic incentives cannot change genocidal ideologies ... The era of reasoning with these savages is over. Over! Now is the time to obliterate Hamas' terror infrastructure."

"This is a never again moment ... Israel will fight back, and Israel will prevail."

Erdan's statements followed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's statements yesterday in which he declared war on Palestine.

It is clear that Israel has suffered a massive blow and that cannot be understated or ignored. Israel is in need of international support and the United Nations must make that happen. The images coming out of Israel on Saturday and Sunday provide clear proof that Hamas militants are guilty of war crimes and crimes against humanity.

What happened yesterday, and what may or may not happen to the hostages still in captivity, have elicited emotions ranging from incredible sadness to outright rage. We can only hope the Erdan and the Nation of Israel get what they demand; however, I personally think the UN Security Council will offer a mediocre half-hearted response. In his press conference, Erdan correctly stated that the UN was formed in the ashes of the Holocaust and they must take a stand for Israel now. Anything less than that will show the world that the UN is not serious in its support of Israel and that the actions taken against it were justified. This cannot happen at all.

The international and American communities must stand up for Israel now and always. Any celebrations and support in this country for what Hamas did should be denounced entirely and forcefully, lest they continue.
