LeBron James Finds a New Way to Criticize the United States, While Remaining Quiet About China

Once again, LeBron James is criticizing the United States of America. This time because of WNBA player Brittney Griner still being in Russia due to being detained in February after vape canisters containing cannabis oil were found in her luggage.

On the recent taping of “The Shop,” James said if he were in Griner’s situation, he would question returning to America.

“Now, how can she feel like America has her back? I would be feeling like, ‘Do I even want to go back to America?'”

It seems James does not think the United States is doing enough to bring Griner home, although Griner did break the law in Russia.

It’s worth noting that President Biden and Vice President Harris spoke with Griner’s wife, Charelle. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken has also communicated with Griner’s family.

Griner recently pleaded guilty to drug possession in Russia, so it is unclear if she will remain in Russia and serve her time or if the Biden administration will be able to get her home safely. Griner has not been sentenced yet, but she could face 10 years in prison.

In 2017, there was a similar situation in China, as three UCLA athletes were caught shoplifting. LiAngelo Ball, Cody Riley, and Jalen Hill had reportedly stolen sunglasses from a Louis Vuitton store. Former President Donald Trump worked with the President of China, Xi Jinping, to have the UCLA athletes return to the United States.

It remains to be seen whether the Biden administration will be able to negotiate with Putin and Russian Government Officials to return Griner to America.

As that’s going on, LeBron found a new way, again, to criticize America. The same America that gave LeBron the opportunity to become a billionaire. The same America that gives him the opportunity to make millions playing in the NBA, millions by being sponsored by Nike, and millions from television advertisements, and all we hear from LeBron are negative comments about our country.

LeBron will criticize the country that gives him the freedom to criticize her instead of totalitarian countries like China. He seems to have a say about everything, whether it’s a horrible mass shooting, politicians, legislation, the police, and protests, but not the riots, not the death of 17-year-old Ethan Liming that took place in LeBron’s “I Promise School” in Akron, Ohio, and of course, no comment about China and the forced labor in Xinjiang.

James picks and chooses too often on what to speak up about and what to stay quiet about. He should stay consistent. If he is going to talk about an atrocious mass shooting in America, he should speak about the atrocious incident in his school in Akron, Ohio; if he doesn’t, it’s evident that he is one of the biggest hypocrites there is. America also gives him the opportunity to pick and choose what he speaks up about, as opposed to other countries that do not allow any criticism aimed at the government or the country itself.

But the fact that James said, if he were in Griner’s shoes, he’d ask “Do I even want to go back to America?” is a slap in the face to veterans, heroes that died on the battlefield, and those in the military right now, who have preserved America’s freedoms and have given James an opportunity to be as successful as he is, and a platform to say whatever he wants. In China or Russia, James would not have the same opportunities or the freedom to speak, criticize, or express himself any way he pleases. There is no other to way put it — LeBron James is a hypocrite.
