President Donald Trump weighed in on the news about Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's engagement with a rather surprising response, given his and the pop star's contentious history.
Speaking to members of the press on Tuesday, President Trump was asked during a cabinet meeting about Swift breaking the internet with news that she and Kansas City Chiefs' star Kelce were finally engaged after dating for two years.
"I have to tell you the biggest pop culture news of the year broke while we were in this cabinet meeting. Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift are engaged, and the world wants your answer, sir," the reporter said.

Trump, who is always very aware of the impact of pop culture on politics, congratulated the happy couple.

"Well, I wish them a lot of luck," Trump replied. "I think he's a great player. He's a great guy."
"I think that she's a terrific person," he added. "So, I wish them a lot of luck."
Did President Trump just label the "Shake it Off" hitmaker a "terrific person?" I can see the world melting down with those comments, given that Trump and Swift have had quite the history.

Taylor Swift Has Had a Earthquake Sized Influence Not Just on NFL but Politics
For those that might not recall, it all started in 2018 when the "Love Story" hitmaker decided to follow other stars on the left by getting political when she publicly denounced Tennessee Republican Marsha Blackburn for all the "woke" reasons you'd expect, as RedState reported.
In response, Trump said, "I'm sure Taylor Swift has nothing — or doesn't know anything about (Blackburn). Let's say that I like Taylor's music about 25% less now, OK?"
In the 2020 election, Swift made it clear she supported then-Democrat presidential nominee Joe Biden. Four years later, Trump correctly predicted in February 2024 that the superstar singer would not endorse Biden, as RedState also reported. And he was right, given Biden was forced out of running following his disastrous debate performance against Trump.
We all know it led the Democratic Party to anoint Vice President Kamala Harris as their presidential nominee. As expected, Swift did the most predictable thing and endorsed Harris following the Harris-Trump presidential debate.
As my RedState colleague Brandon Morse predicted, the popstar's endorsement was a sign of bad things to come for the Democrats.
The timing of Swift's endorsement makes it seem like the Democrats also knew this wasn't going to go as well as they'd like and needed a distraction directly after the debate happened. Sure enough, here comes Swift's Instagram post for the world to see and for news organizations to talk about.
In fact, if you were watching CNN last night, that's exactly what they did. They stopped talking about the debate and started talking about Swift's endorsement very, very quickly. CNN very rarely gets that kind of news out that quickly, at least about social media posts, which also suggests they had been informed this might happen.
Trump famously reacted to the Harris endorsement by simply posting on Truth Social, "I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!!!!!"
Later, he spoke to the Fox and Friends hosts about the singer and said he liked "Mrs. Mahomes MUCH better," referencing Taylor's friend, Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes' wife, Brittany Mahomes, who made headlines after she liked a Trump post and promptly went on defense against the "haters."
"She's a big Trump fan," he added. "I was not a Taylor Swift fan. It was just a question of time. She couldn't… you couldn't possibly endorse [President Joe] Biden."
"You look at Biden, you couldn't possibly endorse him," Trump continued. "But she's a very liberal person. She seems to always endorse a Democrat. And she'll probably pay a price for it at the, uh, in the marketplace. But no, I like Brittany. I think Brittany's great. She got a lot of news last week…"
The president also ended up getting another jab in on Swift after her beau's team's 22-40 loss in the Super Bowl to the Philadelphia Eagles in February.

"The only one that had a tougher night than the Kansas City Chiefs was Taylor Swift," President Trump wrote on Truth Social. "She got BOOED out of the Stadium. MAGA is very unforgiving!"
So, does this mean there's no more "Bad Blood" between the two? I guess only time will tell.
