Taylor Swift's Post-Debate Endorsement of Kamala Is Telling About the Democrats' Confidence

After Tuesday's debate between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris, news swiftly spread that international superstar Taylor Swift had posted her endorsement of Harris to Instagram.

Swift had largely stayed out of endorsing anyone, though it was no mystery that she is a Democrat loyalist. The question wasn't "why hadn't she endorsed Harris," it was "why hadn't she endorsed Harris yet." Now we have that answer, and it tells us a lot about where the Democrat Party's head is at.

As I posted to X, there are two things that need to be realized, and one of them isn't a good sign for Harris.

Firstly, she hugged Brittany Mahomes during their last meeting. Mahomes is a Trump supporter, and one who recently had to learn how to deal with the amount of hate coming at her from vicious leftists, some of whom, I'm sure, were Taylor Swift fans, given their proximity. Swift's own fans were ready to tear Swift apart for showing affection to something so unclean as a Trump supporter, and this post-debate endorsement is something of a penance for her crime.

But then there's the timing of the endorsement.

Let's be real — no one thought this debate was going to go well for Harris. At the moment, it wasn't nearly as bad for her as many predicted, but I still hold that, ultimately, the debate obviously being rigged in Harris' favor thanks to openly biased moderators and rumors of an earpiece disguised as an earring will ultimately damage her in the long run.

The timing of Swift's endorsement makes it seem like the Democrats also knew this wasn't going to go as well as they'd like and needed a distraction directly after the debate happened. Sure enough, here comes Swift's Instagram post for the world to see and for news organizations to talk about.

In fact, if you were watching CNN last night, that's exactly what they did. They stopped talking about the debate and started talking about Swift's endorsement very, very quickly. CNN very rarely gets that kind of news out that quickly, at least about social media posts, which also suggests they had been informed this might happen.

While I obviously have none of the emails or correspondence between Harris' and Swift's handlers, the timing of all of this sure seems suspect. Swift needed to reinforce her base's love of her when doubt was creeping in, and Harris needed Swift's endorsement at just the right time.

The question now is, will this ultimately matter?

While there's definitely a solid chunk of Swift's fan base that would vote the way she tells them to, these were women who already knew of Swift's bias and were likely going to vote for Harris anyway, if they were planning to vote at all. Moreover, many Americans aren't going to be swayed by Swift's endorsement just by virtue of the fact that Swift isn't going to swoop in and make their financial burden any lighter.

Ultimately, it's a shallow attempt at ginning up support that isn't going to move the needle too far.

Besides, if you really want to see what Swift attaching herself to someone does to them ultimately, look no further than the favor she did for the Dallas Cowboys.
