The 49-year-old English actor/comedian appeared at the Westminster Magistrate’s Court in London on Friday, where more information was revealed about the allegations of sexual assault against him from four different women, which date back more than two decades, the Associated Press reported.

Brand did not enter a plea, but instead gave his name, birthdate, and address. The judge then granted the actor conditional bail after he verified that he understood the conditions and the criminal complaints against him.

Those conditions involved notifying the court where he is staying, whether in the United States or the United Kingdom. If he fails to do so, the actor could face jail time, the AP noted. Brand previously lived in the UK but now lives in Florida.

In April, London’s Metropolitan Police charged the “Get Him To the Greek” star with two counts of sexual assault, two counts of rape, and one count of indecent assault. He has denied the allegations.

The majority of the four alleged assaults took place in London, then one in the town of seaside English twon of Bournemouth.

According to London’s Metropolitan police, four separate women have accused the actor of sexual misconduct. One woman accused Brand of raping her in a Bournemouth area hotel in 1999. A second woman accused the actor of indecent assault in London in 2001. Another woman has accused Brand of orally raping and sexually assaulting her in 2004, while a fourth woman said she was sexually assaulted in London between 2004-2005, the BBC noted.

Shortly after the charges were announced, Brand took to X and Instagram, and posted a video denying any wrongdoing.

"I’ve always told you guys, when I was young and single, before I had my wife and family, I was a fool man. I was a fool before I lived in the light of the Lord," the actor said in the clip.

He went on, "I was a drug addict, a sex addict and an imbecile, but what I never was was a rapist."

"I've never engaged in non-consensual activity,” he added. “I pray that you can see that by looking in my eyes.”

"I want to thank all you for your continued support. I'm now going to have the opportunity to defend these charges in court and I'm incredibly grateful for that,” Brand continued.

In February, Jaswant Narwal of the Crown Prosecution Service said, "We have today authorized the Metropolitan Police to charge Russell Brand with a number of sexual offenses, the BBC noted in the story linked above, adding that authorities had "concluded that Russell Brand should be charged wtih" the "non-recent offenses."

The charges followed a joint investigation in 2023 by British media outlets Channel 4 and The Sunday Times, the AP report shared.
