Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D as in dingleberry – NY) is the gift that keeps on giving. Her latest contribution to high hilarity comes in demanding that U.S. Senator Kyrsten Sinema (D as in determined – AZ) be primaried over her refusal to fling the filibuster into the round file over Roe v. Wade’s possible overturn.

We could protect Roe tomorrow, but Sinema refuses to act on the filibuster. Until that changes she can take a seat talking about “women’s access to health care.”

Maybe AOC is upset the guys (and the occasional girl) would rather date Sinema than her. But I digress.

What is Alanis Morissette-level ironic is that Sinema is fiercely pro-choice and no ally of Republican efforts to return abortion to a state-level matter. We thus have the situation of AOC being angry at Sinema for refusing to denounce a parliamentary technique her own party will surely use when the Senate hopefully returns to Republican control in November.

This, for a matter before the Supreme Court, not Congress. Even if the current Congress attempted to push through a bill legalizing abortion at the federal level, how delusional must AOC & co. be to believe enough red district or state Democrats facing re-election this fall would severely risk their political future by supporting the bill?

Nevertheless, they are persisting.

Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., and members of the group of left-wing congresswomen known as the “Squad” are urging their colleagues to pass a bill that would codify Roe v. Wade and reestablish a federal right to abortion. Since Democrats have a slim majority, some of them state that they must abolish the filibuster to make sure such a bill can go through.

Yeah, good luck with that.

One cannot entirely blame the Democrats for being in full dogpanic mode. They’ve seen the polls. They know Biden is increasingly senile and rushing headfirst into 25th Amendment poster boy territory. They know the economy is a rudderless floating shipwreck waiting to hit the last reef. And don’t ask about foreign policy unless you want to hear about citizens dying in Ukrainian streets and Chinese forced labor camps.

Assuming the GOP doesn’t muck it up too badly, which given who we’re talking about is always a concern, no matter how much the media yells “SQUIRREL!” between now and November, the Democrats will be shellacked. And no, AOC, it won’t be Kyrsten Sinema’s fault if a pro-baby murder … er, abortion bill doesn’t pass Congress before the next one is seated.
