After shots were fired at President Donald Trump during a rally in Butler, PA, Saturday, Trump spokesperson Steven Cheung released a statement from the campaign:

"President Trump thanks law enforcement and first responders for their quick action during this heinous act. He is fine and is being checked out at a local medical facility. More details will follow."

It's notable that the Trump campaign statement doesn't characterize what happened in any specific way, though it definitely looks and sounds like an assassination attempt.

In his characteristic defiant fashion, and undoubtedly in an effort to reassure those in the audience that he was okay, Trump stood and raised his fist in the air, face bloodied, as Secret Service agents rushed him off the stage.
