Hoo-boy, it's gettin' real in Fulton County. While District Attorney Fani Willis has so far avoided any type of repercussions for her blatantly political prosecution of Donald Trump and many others related to the 2020 presidential election, it looks like a woman scorned could change things.
That "woman scorned" would be the estranged wife of special prosecutor Nathan Wade, who has now subpoenaed Willis to appear for a deposition in the couple's divorce proceedings. According to CNN, Willis was served the subpoena on Monday, the same day Michael Roman, one of the Trump defendants, filed a motion containing explosive allegations that Willis and Wade have been carrying on a romantic relationship prior to the time Willis appointed him as special prosecutor in November 2021.
The bombshell public filing alleged that special prosecutor Nathan Wade, a private attorney, paid for lavish vacations he took with Willis using the Fulton County funds his law firm received. County records show that Wade, who has played a prominent role in the election interference case, has been paid nearly $654,000 in legal fees since January 2022. The DA authorizes his compensation.
The motion, filed on behalf of defendant Michael Roman, a former Trump campaign official, seeks to have the charges against Roman dismissed and for Willis, Wade and the entire DA’s office to be disqualified from further prosecution of the case.
Pallavi Bailey, a Willis spokeswoman, said the DA’s office will respond to Roman’s allegations “through appropriate court filings.” Wade did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The spokeswoman referenced above has her own connections to controversy within Willis' office. As RedState exclusively reported, Bailey, who was hired in May 2022 (around the time the grand jury investigating Trump was seated) is a DNC Member from Georgia, and is married to the 2022 Democrat nominee for Lt. Governor, Charlie Bailey.
If the name Charlie Bailey rings a bell, it's because there was a bit of a scandal during the summer of 2022 related to Willis and Bailey's opponent, then-state Sen. Burt Jones. Willis hosted a fundraiser for Bailey in June, 2022, then in July sent a target letter to Jones related to the Trump criminal investigation. Jones filed a motion objecting to Willis' office investigating him given her clear support for his rival, which was granted by Fulton County Superior Court Judge Robert McBurney. At the time, Willis didn't acknowledge that one of her key employees was Bailey's significant other.
Willis' office has not replied to CNN's request for comment on the subpoena in the Wade divorce.
