Failed TX-35 Dem Candidate Proves Voters Are Over the Crazy, and Ready for the Credible

Last week, my colleague Ben Smith reported on Maureen Galindo, the Democrat frontrunner for Texas' Congressional District 35, and she is definitely one for the books. As some of my male friends would surmise, she lands on the wrong side of the Hot/Crazy matrix.

Smith wrote:

A Democratic congressional candidate in San Antonio wants to turn an ICE detention center into a prison for "American Zionists," and she has a runoff election in one week. Maureen Galindo, running to represent Texas' newly redrawn 35th Congressional District, is facing a cascade of condemnation after a series of social media posts in which she called for Zionists to be imprisoned, accused Jewish "Zionists" of controlling politicians and the media, and declared that her runoff opponent should be tried for treason.

Well, good news. After the revelation about her many social media rants, Galindo's frontrunner status vaporized more quickly than she could delete those social media posts. In the Tuesday runoff, Galindo ended her race at the bottom, which is where she wanted to be anyway

#NEW: The Texas Democratic who said she wanted to turn an ICE detention center into a “prison for American zionists,” has lost her runoff race. Maureen Galindo, a sex therapist, was the frontrunner before her antisemitic comments got national attention and faced backlash from her own party.

Johnny Garcia beat Maureen Galindo in the Democratic primary runoff in Texas' 35th Congressional District, CBS News projects, after accusations of antisemitic comments by Galindo roiled the race in the final days.

Galindo, a sex therapist, finished first in the March primary against Garcia, a former sheriff's deputy, and two other candidates. But Galindo came under fire in recent days after she pledged to turn an immigration detention facility into a "prison for American Zionists" if elected.

Galindo didn't just lose, she lost bigly. Compared to her left-wing lunacy, Galindo's Democrat challenger, Johnny Garcia, is actually normal, cut from similar cloth as Democrat Rep. Henry Cuellar (TX-28). Garcia is running on a platform of being an "old school Democrat," and as a deputy, SWAT hostage negotiator, and Public Information Officer for the Bexar County Sheriff's Office, Garcia leans closer to MAGA than moronic. In this newly reconstituted San Antonio-area district, which now leans more GOP, Democrat voters appear more interested in normalcy than nutcase.

I've said it before: Texans pride themselves on common sense. While they draw a circle around Austin and let them do what they do, the majority of the state doesn't much tolerate insanity, let alone elect it to national office.

Let's take a look at who will no longer be a part of the United States House of Representatives and which side of the crazy matrix (and which party) they fell under:

Rep. Jasmine Crockett (Democrat-TX 30) was "Talaricoed" out of the Senate contest in the March 3 Texas primary, so she won't be returning to Congress.

Rep. Al Green (Democrat-TX 18) was just primaried in the same Tuesday runoff that showed Galindo the door. So, it seems as though the bat signal has gone out that it's time to rid Texas of the crazy and replace it with the credible.

Galindo never had a chance. Now, Texas 35 may have a fighting one. Even if the Democrat wins, Garcia sounds like he's for law, order, and sanity.

Emphasis on the sanity.

Editor’s Note: The 2026 Midterms will determine the fate of President Trump’s America First agenda. Republicans must maintain control of both chambers of Congress.
