DOJ Surges Additional U.S. Attorneys to Minnesota As They Wade Through Deluge of Fraud

According to Fox News' Washington correspondent Bill Melugin, Attorney General Pam Bondi will be surging more prosecutors to Minnesota to address the Somali fraud plaguing the state. This fraud has been covered by multiple independent journalists like Alpha News and County Highway, but it exploded when YouTuber Nick Shirley put the spotlight on registered Somali day care centers raking in millions of dollars in federal funding, even though they had no staff and no children present. These videos went viral, making national headlines.

AG Bondi may have also read the Washington Free Beacon, which highlighted that the absolutely overwhelming volume of fraud demanded more federal resources, especially since MN Attorney General Keith Ellison does not have clean hands in the matter.

Federal authorities are keenly aware of the problem, are pursuing cases, and are overwhelmed by the volume of fraud. They literally don’t have enough manpower to tackle it all. Concerned citizens should demand that prosecutors be added to the team working out of the office of the United States Attorney for Minnesota. The chant should be to send reinforcements.

At a press conference in September, First Assistant U.S. Attorney Joe Thompson all but shouted his takeaway from the rooftop: Minnesota is drowning in fraud — fraud in Medicaid programs designed and administered by the state of Minnesota — and, I would add, under the noses of Governor Tim Walz and Attorney General Keith Ellison. “I want to be clear on the scope of the crisis,” he said. “What we see are schemes stacked upon schemes, draining resources meant for those in need. It feels never-ending. I have spent my career as a fraud prosecutor and the depth of the fraud in Minnesota takes my breath away.”

Bondi's statement continued:

The Department of Justice is dispatching a team of prosecutors to Minnesota to reinforce our U.S. Attorney’s Office and put the perpetrators of this widespread fraud behind bars. We will deliver severe consequences in Minnesota and stand ready to deploy to any other state where similar fraud schemes are robbing American taxpayers.

No doubt more AUSAs are also needed to handle the indictments of legal and illegal criminals whom Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and her team have apprehended in their sweeps. Noem spoke with Fox News' Jesse Watters Primetime about the layers upon layers of fraud that continue to be uncovered. As Noem tells it, they practically need hip waders.

On Wednesday, the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform held the first of what may be multiple hearings on the Minnesota fraud. Republican Chairman James Comer (KY-01) had whistleblowers testify not just to the mountains of fraud, but to how government agencies were complicit in the furtherance and cover-up.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Attorney General Keith Ellison have either been asleep at the wheel or complicit in a massive fraud involving taxpayer dollars in Minnesota’s social services programs. American taxpayers demand and deserve accountability for the theft of their hard-earned money. The U.S. Department of Justice is actively investigating, prosecuting, and charging fraudsters who have stolen billions from taxpayers, and Congress has a duty to conduct rigorous oversight of this heist and enact stronger safeguards to prevent fraud in taxpayer-funded programs, as well as strong sanctions to hold offenders accountable.

Comer honed in on the "breathtaking" amount of fraud already uncovered in his opening statement.
