Sarah Huckabee Sanders, who battled with journalists as former President Donald J. Trump’s Press Secretary and has recently recovered from surgery to remove cancer of her thyroid, is projected to be the next governor of Arkansas, defeating Democrat Chris Jones by more than six points to replace the term-limited Governor Asa Hutchison.

From Fox News:

Republican candidate and former White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders is projected to win the governor’s race. She replaces term-limited Republican Governor Asa Hutchinson. Sanders will be Arkansas’ first female governor.

Sanders was the White House Press Secretary under former President Trump from 2017 to 2019.

She defeats Democrat Chris Jones, who is a nuclear engineer and ordained Baptist minister.

Huckabee Sanders is scheduled to be inaugurated on January 16, 2023, 16 years after her father and former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee completed his 10-year term.
