THIS IS WHY WE RECALL: In Gavin Newsom's California, He Can't Keep the Lights on

While there are many sins Governor Gavin Newsom has committed against the people of California, this is the one that felled a governor named Gray Davis. Remember him? He was the California governor who was recalled in 2003—by a wide margin—and then replaced.

For His Hairfulness, this is another reminder of all the mounting failures of his poor governance. We THE PEOPLE are on the cusp of doing it again.

From Fox 11:

With above-normal temperatures forecast for much of California and the West, the manager of the state’s power grid issued a Flex Alert that will take effect Wednesday afternoon, calling for voluntary electricity conservation.

According to the California Independent System Operator, the Flex Alert will be in effect from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday “due to predicted high energy demand and tight supplies on the power grid.”

For those who have never lived in Southern California, 4-9 pm is PEAK TIME. Many people have gotten home from work or picked their children up from school. This is the time for highest use of air conditioning, appliances, televisions, computers, and gaming systems. Some are even charging their electric vehicles after a long commute. The northern part of the State is usually not worried about AC, but with this heat wave, they will be getting above-average temperatures; so if they have such a system, they will want to employ it.

A power shutdown during that time would not be pretty, so the hapless energy managers just request that maybe we tone it down a bit?

Good luck with that.

Indeed. People thought they lived in Lodi, not Mumbai.

During the Flex Alert time period, consumers are asked to lower their thermostats to 78 degrees or higher, if health permits, and take other voluntary measures including avoiding the use of major appliances and unnecessary lights.

This is right around the time I usually cooking dinner, and I am sure others are as well; especially caregivers and those who attend to their family’s needs. Whether it be microwave or range, it needs to be used. And 78 degrees? How many menopausal women exist in California? Just curious.

To take full advantage of all available supply, the ISO has also issued a restricted maintenance operation for noon-9 p.m. Wednesday, notifying ISO participants to avoid taking grid assets offline for routine maintenance until the RMO is lifted.

We have unofficially rounded out Summer, and had our last holiday weekend until November. This is the week people are back in “full gear” so to speak. The children are masked up and in school, people are back to regular work schedules, and life should be able to fall into an uncomplicated rhythm. The last thing any of us wants is to have to think about whether the power is going to stay on; especially since we pay hefty prices for this energy, and get so very little for it.

Six more days. This is Why We Recall.
