In case you haven’t noticed, we’re coming up on a three-day weekend for most people: Labor Day weekend 2021. For those families whose children are not yet in school, it is a last opportunity to take an excursion before hunkering down and settling into Fall. Heck, even those whose kids have already started classes will take out the time for a mini-vacay and kicking back for a few days.
Well, if you happen to be unvaccinated, CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky is saying… not so fast.
From the New York Post:
Americans unvaccinated against COVID-19 and eyeing travel plans this Labor Day weekend should reconsider, Dr. Rochelle Walensky, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said during a White House briefing Tuesday.
Overall, the health agency advises delaying travel until becoming fully vaccinated, defined as two weeks post-second dose, or two weeks following the single-shot developed by Johnson & Johnson.
“First and foremost, if you are unvaccinated, we would recommend not traveling,” Walensky said during the virtual briefing.
“…People who are fully vaccinated and who are wearing masks can travel although given where we are with disease transmission right now, we would say that people need to take these risks into their own consideration as they think about traveling,” she said.
Yeah, good luck with that. The entire world is still aghast over the Afghanistan debacle, and the lying and gaslighting of epic proportions coming from the bowels of the Biden administration. Just because this cabinet wants to try and pivot back to COVID and vaccines doesn’t mean that the American people will follow their lead.
Americans have also not forgotten those faithful service dogs that were left behind to suffer and die along with, we don’t know how many, Americans and Afghan allies. In terms of those animals, my colleague Scott Hounsell reported that we have a CDC-ban to thank for the delay that resulted in those dogs not getting out safely.
According to SPCA International, a CDC-issued ban on the importation of animals from certain countries is what has been the primary barrier for the evacuation of animals from Afghanistan. The ban was placed earlier this year because of a rise in fraudulent rabies certificates that were being submitted with importation requests from more than 100 countries.
Leave it to the CDC. Good job, Dr. Walensky.
And in the category of “More Things Where the CDC Needs to Mind its Own Business”, Last week Dr. Walensky waded into the issue of gun violence control, and talked about how heart wrenching it is watch children in Chicago die from gun deaths. No mention of the government-influenced causations that help to produce this violence, like loose D.A.s who fail to enforce the law, and the current push to defund the police.
My colleague Jerry Wilson, who reported on Dr. Walensky’s foray into gun activism, made this salient point:
The greatest issue with Walensky’s entering the fray is the fundamental distrust she has earned in the area of not making this a partisan government overreach. She has been unable to get her story straight regarding COVID. Walensky has offered zero evidence she will not turn matters of national interest into conduits for family financial gain. These are not the hallmarks of someone capable of negotiating the frenzied waters of anything involving guns in this country.
Dr. Walensky appears to take her cues from whatever the Biden administration wants, rather than from looking at the actual data or science and coming to scientific conclusions. As my colleague Kate Paul Dillon revealed after Dr. Walensky’s last press conference, the good doctrix doesn’t seem to bother to read and analyze any of the data presently at her fingertips, before spouting pronouncements out of her mouth. Dr. Walensky reads talking points quite well. The actual research? Not so much.
Dr. Walensky never shows her work, cites no sources, and leaves it up to the journalists to investigate her claims. Obviously, few do, and even then the AP can only find one small study without peer-review that they assume these guidance changes could be based on. Taking an authority figure by their word, in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary with no stated evidence to the contrary, is not science. It is faith.
This is not the first time the CDC Director has taken liberties in making broad moralizing statements without providing any evidence, and it is not nearly the first time the press has simply failed to ask for that data.
Dr. Walensky also has a husband who doesn’t pay much attention to his wife’s pronouncements (see Scott Hounsell’s piece here), and he’s a medical doctor as well. So, why should anyone pay attention to another obvious demonization of the unvaccinated, and an attempt to further the creation of a caste system for them? At this point, all of us are weary of the lies, the hypocrisy, and the double standards, whether it be COVID-related or Afghanistan.
So, suffice to say, most Americans—unvaccinated or otherwise—will probably treat this pronouncement, like Biden treated the Americans, Afghans, and service dogs he left behind.
Dr. Walensky can talk to our backs. While you’re at it, go even lower and pucker up.
Unlike our citizens and allies, these caste-creating fearmongers deserve nothing less.
