California Offers Blacks Reparations by Owning Nearly Half Their Home

In 2019, Governor Gavin Newsom signed a Reparations bill authored by Assemblywoman Shirley Weber, to mount a task force on how California could make up for the racial inequities that Blacks have suffered. Newsom kicked off the Reparations by appointing Weber as Secretary of State. More examples of Democrats failing up.

Well, this task force, a first of its kind in the nation, has now begun its work.

The nine members of the task force, appointed by Gov. Gavin Newsom and legislative leaders, include the descendants of slaves who are now prominent lawyers, academics and politicians. The group’s newly elected chair is a young lawyer who specializes in intellectual property, and their vice-chair is a longtime civil rights activist arrested with the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at a lunch counter sit-in in 1961.

The goal: study how to solve these racial inequities over a two-year period. Several of the points outlined in the first meeting of the task force on Tuesday were to write an apology to Black Californians for all the things the white man has done to them, offer free tuition to a CSU of their choice, and to foster home ownership among Blacks with this genius idea:

State lawmakers have zeroed in on homeownership as one of the main ways to close the wealth gap between Black and white Californians. On Tuesday, the Assembly and Senate unveiled a joint spending plan — which they’ll use to negotiate with Newsom ahead of the June 15 deadline to pass a budget — that proposes developing a program in which the state would pay for, and own, up to 45% of a home. That would cut the purchase price nearly in half, allowing more families to buy homes and build wealth, lawmakers say. Both Newsom and legislators also proposed setting aside $200 million to facilitate homeownership for first-time buyers and low-income Californians.

Of all the paternalistic pablum that has come from these progressive, thought(less) leaders, this one is the most devoid of not only common sense, but a pure insult to the people who have worked and slaved to own and maintain their homes—many of them Black.

Insulting our intelligence seems to be Newsom’s goal these days; and he’s succeeding.

If you haven’t figured it out yet, the government loves task forces and special committees; they are the perfect vehicles to make it appear as though you are doing something, while accomplishing nothing. This has been one of the hallmarks of the Newsom administration: see a problem, mount a task force/committee with a press conference, and pledge to solve the problem, waste time and taxpayer money, and disband said committee without any real change being enacted.

In 2019, Newsom mounted a “Future of Work Commission” before the pandemic, which was stuffed with Union officials, Democrat donors, and other special interests. After two years, they’ve declared the need for a “social contract” to address income inequities (what does that even mean?), more jobs by 2030,  and the state needs to create green and technology jobs.

Well, don’t we all.

In September of 2020, Newsom declared a “Truth and Healing Commission” be established to address the evils done to the Native American communities in the state. I think the Native Americans are still waiting on this, as is anyone who is expecting the government to solve problems it created.

You heard it here first: this is going nowhere. But boy, does it look good on camera!
