In a development that likely won’t get the attention of the activist media, a large group of Palestinians in Gaza have vocally condemned Hamas as the war in Gaza continues.

On Saturday, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) released a video showing a crowd of Palestinians evacuating from Khan Yunis, which is located in southern Gaza. While they were marching, they were filmed chanting “The people want to overthrow Hamas.”

Major General Ghasan Aliyan, coordinator of government activities in the region, noted that “we see more and more evidence of public criticism voiced by the residents of Gaza against the terrorist organization Hamas.”

He also noted that Gaza residents “rightly prefer their well-being and the safety of their children over the continued military strengthening of Hamas and the terrorist activities that harm them and their future.”

As Aliyan said, this is not the only example showing that Palestinians are fed up with Hamas.

Reports from Palestinian media have stated there are more voices of Gazans coming out against Hamas, "which controls prices of food and humanitarian aid." Another Gazan said, "Hamas is the one that receives the goods. All the arms of Hamas are corrupt - they take most of the aid, and only small amounts reach the distribution centers.

"The Hamas police also cooperate with merchants and create a monopoly, so goods can be sold at a much higher price than the original price. The merchants receive the goods in cooperation with Hamas or through the Kerem Shalom crossing, where Hamas collects astronomical taxes," he continued.

There are likely several factors that are driving Palestinians to speak out against Hamas. For starters, they have suffered immensely because of the war that the terrorist group started. Not only that, the terrorists have been using civilians as human shields, deliberately getting them killed so they can blame their deaths on Israel.

This is why Hamas has repeatedly disallowed Gaza residents to leave the area. In one instance, terrorists actually opened fire on a group of civilians that was trying to evacuate a Gaza hospital.

It is also important to remember that before the war, Hamas ruled Gaza with an iron fist. It has perpetrated many human rights abuses against Palestinians who dared to speak out against them. There is no concept of free speech in the region, and Hamas ensured that this was the case.

Now that Hamas is being systematically eliminated, the group has grown far weaker, which might be emboldening those who wished to speak out previously, but were too afraid. At this point, it will be much harder for the terrorist group to silence dissenting voices since they are busy trying to withstand Israel’s military campaign.

It will not be surprising to see even more Palestinians speak out as the war progresses, and the end of Hamas draws closer.
