New details have emerged in the ongoing case of a high-end prostitution ring that was discovered in Boston and Washington, D.C. In November 2022, the authorities made several arrests in a sex ring that was allegedly used by high-profile individuals, including military officers, members of Congress, national security contractors, and others.
Now, information has come to light suggesting that the prostitution ring could have been part of a “honeypot” scheme intended to ensnare U.S. officials, according to an exclusive report from the Daily Mail.
Intelligence experts are becoming increasingly convinced that six high end brothels in the suburbs of Boston and Washington, D.C. were set up by a foreign nation as an espionage 'honeytrap'.
They believe the brothels – allegedly masterminded by a 41-year-old South Korean woman – targeted politicians, high ranking government officials and defense contractors.
But the mystery is which country was behind the scheme. Russia, China, Korea itself, or even Israel are al seen as possibly being behind the scheme.
'Having the Koreans out front could have been a false flag to give China or another country plausible deniability if the plot unraveled,' a one-time CIA senior operations officer told DailyMail.com in an exclusive interview.
None of the alleged clients have yet been named, but an earlier report suggested that as many as 28 people could be unmasked as the authorities are expected to indict and charge them.
Several experts told the Daily Mail that they believe the operation could be a honeypot set up by foreign entities to gather blackmail material on high-profile government officials.
From a practical standpoint, it would have been easier to simply open two more brothels in Boston – unless the primary goal of the ring's operators wasn't maximizing profits but intelligence gathering.
'The most valuable information in Washington and Boston are government secrets,' a former foreign spy who is well acquainted with honeypots told DailyMail.com.
'If you open a prostitution business that caters to wealthy clients in those cities, you'll get a lot of people walking through the doors that have access to them.'
Former CIA Special Agent Nic McKinley, who now leads Deliver Fund, a nonprofit that works with law enforcement to combat human trafficking, echoed the point.
'If this had been a pure cash play, massage parlors are easier to set up, have lower overhead costs and print money,' he said.
'But they wouldn't have pulled in affluent customers from government and national security circles.'
A retired foreign operative explained that the objective of these types of schemes “is to create a chain reaction” in which the perpetrators attract clients from a “narrow group of targets” and then “wait for them to invite friends and colleagues from the same circles.”
The issue came to light after federal authorities arrested three individuals who are accused of running the operation.
As if there wasn't enough of this going on (metaphorically) in Congress, now we see that three men have been arrested on charges of operating a string of "high-end" brothels, including one just outside of the nation's capital.
Authorities arrested three individuals accused of organizing a "high-end brothel network" that had been in operation since 2020 and whose customers included elected officials and military officers, a new indictment alleges.
Federal prosecutors announced that Han Lee, 41; James Lee, 68; and Junmyung Lee, 30 were arrested Wednesday morning after allegedly operating an "interstate prostitution network" including multiple brothels in Cambridge and Watertown, Massachusetts, as well as in Fairfax and Tysons, Virginia, just outside Washington, D.C.
The defendants advertised the prostitution network on two websites, which, according to prosecutors, offered appointments with women in either Boston or Eastern Virginia and listed each woman's height, weight and bust size with nude and semi-nude photographs.
The alleged mastermind of the plot kept detailed records of the operation and clients. It hid over $1 million in profit.
If the suspicions of the experts interviewed by the Daily Mail are accurate, this story just got much bigger and will create even more of a scandal when the names are revealed. This is especially true of the supposed members of Congress who could have gotten caught up in this operation, given that it is an election year. If this was a honeypot scheme, it will raise questions about which nations were actually involved and whether they were able to gather sensitive information through blackmail.
