Tinfoil Hat Time: What Are Democrats Hoping to Accomplish by Arresting Trump?

I’m usually not one to don a tinfoil hat when analyzing the news of the day. But by the time I’m done writing this article, I might just be wearing a full, three-piece tinfoil suit with a tinfoil pocket square.

You may have already heard that former President Donald Trump announced that he expects to be arrested next Tuesday. He said as much in a post on Truth Social.

Members of the chattering class are going a-chattering on the airwaves and interwebs in speculation about what the ramifications of such a development could mean for the 2024 election—and even beyond. It will, after all, be the first time a former president is indicted for a crime.

But, as RedState’s Bonchie noted in a previous article, the New York district attorney’s office appears to have some serious holes in their case against Trump. They are making some questionable claims that Trump falsified business records, when he allegedly made a hush money payment to adult film star Stormy Daniels just before the 2016 presidential election.

Being that this is clearly a politically-motivated effort on the district attorney’s part, what could Democrats hope to accomplish by indicting and arresting the former president under such shady circumstances?

This is where my tinfoil hat comes in, dear reader. Could they be doing this because they wish to spark Trump supporters to engage in another J6-style riot?

It is certainly possible, and the former president may have unknowingly played into their hands. On Saturday, he took to Truth Social to tell his followers that he will likely be arrested next week. It appeared to be an effort to preempt a formal announcement from prosecutors and to stoke outrage from his base. Later in the day, he wrote, “IT’S TIME!!! WE JUST CAN’T ALLOW THIS ANYMORE. THEY’RE KILLING OUR NATION AS WE SIT BACK & WATCH. WE MUST SAVE AMERICA!PROTEST, PROTEST, PROTEST!!!”

You don’t need to have magical powers to figure out that the anti-Trumpers took the opportunity to accuse Trump of trying to foment violence. Everyone’s favorite squish, Adam Kinzinger, took to Twitter to say that if violence does ensue after Trump is arrested, “it will just prove to the skeptics who launched the violence on Jan. 6… DJT Himself.”

Trump’s former lawyer, Michael Cohen, who spent three years in jail for his part in the Stormy Daniels saga, told MSNBC’s Ari Velshi that the former president “wants another violent clash on his behalf” and that his posts are “eerily similar” to the “battle cry” he issued just before the Jan. 6 riot.

Several others echoed Kinzinger’s and Cohen’s asinine sentiments. Indeed, it is almost as if these people want riots to happen.

I’m not the only one who has this suspicion. Radio talk show host Mark Simone said as much in his own tweet:

Some believe that Democrats have orchestrated this fraudulent arrest, hoping they can manufacture another January 6th type of riot.  They wouldn’t be plotting all this if Trump wasn’t very far ahead in their internal polls.

Conservative podcaster Liz Wheeler also chimed in:

They’ll arrest Trump to humiliate him. They know it’s abuse of power. They want you enraged so you’ll protest so they can Jan 6th you. It’s always been about labeling half the country as “terrorists” so they can violate our rights because we reject their Marxist ideology.

Conservative commentator Jesse Kelly had some strong words on this matter, arguing that Trump does not deserve to have people come out and protest for him:

FYI: The last time Trump’s biggest fans protested on his behalf, he left them all to rot in jail without so much as a penny from him in legal fees. Not a penny.

Shame on him for this. Do NOT go to a blue area and protest for this man. Ignore this.

Of course, I could be totally off base in this theory. But, it would make sense, wouldn’t it? The Democrats and their close friends and allies in the activist media have squeezed every bit of bloody juice from the J6 riots. Using that incident is no longer politically beneficial for the left, so they need a new atrocity to weaponize against Trump and the conservative movement as a whole.

If any type of violence were to break out among those who support Trump, you can be sure the MSNBCs, CNNs, and New York Times of the world will pounce like Rep. Eric Swalwell on a Chinese spy and give it wall-to-wall coverage – even if it turns out that the district attorney chooses not to indict him. Even if the case completely falls flat, any shred of violence will give the left ammunition to use against Republicans. When you stop to think about it, this theory doesn’t quite seem so farfetched, does it?
