Well, that didn’t take too long, did it? Less than a week after Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis joined up with the Abbott Express and flew a group of 50 Venezuelan asylum seekers to Martha’s Vineyard, a Texas sheriff announced he was launching an investigation into the matter.
This is the latest in a series of attempts on the part of the open border left to stop Republican governors from bringing the border to blue cities. Apparently, they finally realized that whining about the issue was not a tenable strategy. Go figure.
On Monday, Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar held a press conference in which he explained that his office was “opening up a case with an investigation with regard to the suspected activities involving the 48 migrants from Venezuela.”
“Our understanding is that a Venezuelan migrant was paid what we would call a ‘bird dog fee’ to recruit approximately 50 migrants from the area around a migrant resource center in San Pedro, here in San Antonio,” Salazar continued.
He added:
“Here in San Antonio, as we understand it, 48 migrants were lured … under false pretenses into staying at a hotel for a couple of days. They were taken by airplane. At a certain point, they were shuttled to an airplane, where they were flown to Florida and then eventually flown to Martha’s Vineyard. Again, under false pretenses, is the information that we have, that they were promised work.”

However, despite the sheriff’s musings, this investigation is likely already dead in the water. As RedState’s Bonchie pointed out:
Further, DeSantis, always thinking ahead, had the illegal aliens sign a release before they boarded the planes and the illegal aliens were even provided brochures showing the resources available in Massachusetts.

Moreover, even if they did find this mystery Venezuelan, they would still have to prove DeSantis’ office was the entity who paid him to supposedly “lure” these folks onto these planes.
But we already know what this is, don’t we? It’s nothing more than a desperate attempt to smear DeSantis and Abbott for making these people suffer the consequences of the policies they have been supporting for years. Oh, and did I mention – Bexar County is a blue area, which means their burden of proof for me is going to have to be pretty high if I’m not going to assume this is politically motivated.
So let’s step back for a second.
Democrats first reacted to the Abbott Express by complaining about the influx of migrants being transported to Washington, D.C., and New York City. Mayors Muriel Bowser and Eric Adams, respectively, slammed Gov. Abbott for engaging in such cruelty. Both called on the National Guard to lend a hand and were summarily rebuffed.
As Abbott expanded the initiative to Chicago, Mayor Lori Lightfoot was quite irate, referring to the action as “racist.” A few days later, she shipped her migrants to a nearby suburb because she can’t have too much brown in the Windy City.
Last week, high-profile Democrats and members of the activist media began throwing around terms like “human trafficking,” downplaying the experience of those who have actually endured modern-day slavery and being sex trafficked to score cheap political points. When that didn’t work, they accused the governors of “kidnapping.”
But none of these attacks have landed. As they will soon find out, this “investigation” isn’t going to give them what they want either.
What is amazing is the fact that they would easily stop the Abbott Express in only a week or two by pulling back from their open support of open borders policies. All they would have to do is grow a pair and start holding the Biden administration accountable for deliberately starting the migrant crisis and for refusing to do anything to stop it.
In fact, they wouldn’t even have to do it publicly. When they finally get to that breaking point, this would likely be done through back channels, out of the public eye. Sure, some of the content of those conversations would surely be leaked, but at least they won’t have to get in front of cameras to take Biden to task for this ongoing debacle.
But, it appears these people wish to do it the hard way, which means blue cities will continue taking in migrants and illegal aliens. The question is: When will enough be enough?
