You knew this was coming. Ron DeSantis is now under criminal investigation for transporting 50 illegal aliens to Martha’s Vineyard. That comes per the Miami Herald, which reports that a Texas sheriff is investigating whether the migrants were “lured” away from the Migrant Resource Center in Bexar County, TX.

Authorities in Texas have opened a criminal investigation into Gov. Ron DeSantis’ operation to fly roughly 50 Venezuela migrants from Texas to Martha’s Vineyard last week.

Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar said in a news release Monday that his office is investigating whether the migrants were the victims of a crime.

“The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office has opened an investigation into the migrants that were lured from the Migrant Resource Center, located in Bexar County, TX, and flown to Florida, where they were ultimately left to fend for themselves in Martha’s Vineyard, MA,” said Salazar, referring to an aid center for migrants in San Antonio, which is in Bexar County.

Salazar said his office was working with private attorneys for the migrants, as well as advocacy groups.

“We are also preparing to work with any federal agencies that have concurrent jurisdiction, should the need arise,” added Salazar, who is a Democrat.

My sides hurt from laughing so much at this. It is absolutely absurd to suggest that it is criminal to transport people who volunteered to be transported. In fact, these illegal aliens seems happy even after arriving in Martha’s Vineyard. Further, DeSantis, always thinking ahead, had the illegal aliens sign a release before they boarded the planes and the illegal aliens were even provided brochures showing the resources available in Massachusetts.

Immigration lawyers, who make thousands of dollars per illegal alien pursuing mostly fraudulent asylum claims, are disputing the material in the brochure, though it all apparently came from Massachusetts’ state website. The bias involved is obvious, given illegal immigration literally makes their industry.

Besides, what is even the suggestion here? That it’s human trafficking to take people who want to go to liberal sanctuary cities? Does this Democrat sheriff really have nothing better to do despite his county being in the midst of heavy drug cartel activity? We know what this is. It’s just pointless lashing out for political reasons.

It’s also not going anywhere. A Texas sheriff is not going to arrest the governor of Florida for giving people rides who wanted rides. There are no statutes for “luring people away,” whatever the heck that actually means, that I’m aware of. Further, these illegal aliens were living on the street. Is this sheriff suggesting it would have been better to leave them there?

All of this is dumb, but I’m here for it.

Update: Here is video of Sheriff Salazar making the announcement.
