House Democrats Seeking to Oust Marjorie Taylor Greene Don’t Have a Leg to Stand On

As you might already know, House Democrats will vote on Thursday to remove Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) from her committee assignments due to her history of making anti-Semitic and other bigoted remarks before she was elected. When her questionable social media posts came to light, they garnered criticism from people on both the Left and the Right.

Now, Democratic lawmakers are set to put on a production worthy of Broadway to create the illusion that they actually care about anti-Semitism or bigotry in general. The cast will feature House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and her merry band of feckless hypocrites in a star-studded event that will titillate their audience of far-leftists and media activists.

But House Republicans are prepared to make a move that will put the Democrats’ adoration of double standards on full display before the entire nation. Fox News reported that “the House is set to consider a measure this week that calls for Taylor Greene, a controversial first-term lawmaker known for her support of the QAnon conspiracy theory, from her assignment on the Education and Labor Committee.”

The report continued, noting that “a proposed GOP-backed amendment to that measure calls for Omar, frequently identified as a member of the ‘Squad’ of progressive Democrats, to be removed from her committee assignments ‘in light of conduct she has exhibited.’”

“Reps. Brian Babin (R-TX), Jeff Duncan (R-SC), Jody Hice (R-GA), Andy Biggs (R-AZ), and Ronny Jackson (R-TX) sponsored the proposed amendment,” according to Fox.

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) has a history of making anti-Jewish remarks even after she took office. She claimed that the Jews, through AIPAC (American Israel Public Affairs Committee), were paying politicians like House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) to take a favorable stance toward Israel.

Omar vigorously supports the Boycott, Divest, and Sanction (BDS) movement, which singles out Israel for its conflict with the Palestinians. They seek to diminish the Jewish state by attacking them economically. However, Omar, as well as her comrades, do not demonstrate the same level of animus toward countries guilty of atrocities far worse than any committed by Israel.

The federal government last year declared that the “Global BDS Campaign” was anti-Semitic. The Anti-Defamation League (ADL), which is hardly a conservative organization, pointed out that “many of the founding goals of the BDS movement, including denying the Jewish people the universal right of self-determination – along with many of the strategies employed in BDS campaigns are anti-Semitic.”

The statement continued: “Many individuals involved in BDS campaigns are driven by opposition to Israel’s very existence as a Jewish state.  Often time, BDS campaigns give rise to tensions in communities – particularly on college campuses – that can result in harassment or intimidation of Jews and Israel supporters, including overt antisemitic expression and acts.”

Omar’s criticism against Israel does not seem to be based on any sort of principles regarding oppression or human rights violations. She does not have the same energy when it comes to socialist governments like Venezuela’s. Indeed, she has vocally opposed sanctions being imposed on the country’s government, which is responsible for numerous abuses against its citizenry.

The representative is not the only Democratic lawmaker who has shown a penchant for anti-Semitism. Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) has also had her share of anti-Jewish moments. Shortly after she took office, she, or one of her staffers, put a sticky note with “Palestine” written on it on a map in place of Israel, suggesting that the Jewish state should not exist.

Of course, one cannot ignore Greene’s previous comments, which she has not denied or disavowed. I wrote a piece noting that she is doing more harm to the conservative movement than good – and I still stand by every single word of that piece. (See: Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene Has Become An Albatross Around The GOP’s Neck)

Greene has also made her share of anti-Semitic remarks. The Times of Israel reported:

In the post, the freshman congresswoman from Georgia theorized that the Rothschild family was involved in starting California wildfires using lasers from space. Invoking conspiratorial control by the Rothschild banking family over world events is a centuries-old anti-Semitic stereotype, and it is also a theme in the pro-Trump QAnon conspiracy theory that Greene has promoted.

Rep. Greene has also promoted the theory that Jews are overseeing the mass migration of non-white immigrants into mostly-white countries to wipe out the white race. In a now-deleted 2018 Facebook video, she repeated the conspiracy theory, which is known as the “Great Replacement.” She claimed refugees are using “immigrant pawns” to bring about “the biggest genocide in human history.”

The Republican Jewish Coalition on Friday released a statement criticizing Greene and stated that it is “working closely with the House Republican leadership regarding next steps” in showing that the lawmaker is “far outside the mainstream of the Republican Party.” The organization is one of several Jewish groups that have condemned Greene’s previous comments.

Greene has also made other absurd claims. She argued that Omar and Tlaib being elected to Congress was part of “an Islamic invasion of our government.”

The lawmaker also contended that the 9/11 terrorist attacks were part of a conspiracy, arguing that there was “the so-called plane that crashed into the Pentagon. It’s odd there’s never any evidence shown for a plane in the Pentagon.” To be fair, she has since indicated that she no longer believes in this theory, but has not yet done the same for the other claims she has promoted.

She also falsely claimed that former President Barack Obama “is a Muslim” and stated that he “opened up our borders to an invasion by Muslims.”

The representative has also made questionable claims about school shootings, intimating that the Parkland and Sandy Hook attacks were staged.

Greene has also called for the killings of Democratic politicians like Nancy Pelosi and others and liked posts from other users calling for violence against left-leaning officials.

So what does all this mean? It all comes down to this: Each of the lawmakers in question deserve to be ousted – but not by partisan proceedings pushed by politically-motivated progressives who are blatant hypocrites. If they truly cared about anti-Semitism – or other types of bigotry – they would have led the charge against Omar and Tlaib and stripped them of their committee assignments.

If any of these lawmakers are to be removed, it should be done by their constituents, not feckless Democrats looking to score cheap political points. I’m sure the House Republicans who introduced the amendment to include Omar knew it would not even be considered – but they were making a point. They were noting the obvious double standard that the Left is engaging in with their latest piece of political theater. But, would we expect anything else from these people?
