Flashback 2015: Josh Earnest - No Military Action Against Syria Is Why They Don't Have Chemical Weapons

In light of Assad’s use of chemical weapons against his fellow Syrians, it’s worth revisiting the high-fiving, and back-patting Barack Obama and his team engaged in after they assured the public Assad no longer had any chemical weapons.

In September of 2015, Josh Earnest was on Morning Joe and said had President Obama ordered any military strike against Syria; they’d still have chemical weapons. Watch:

Earnest insisted that if the United States conducted a unilateral strike against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, “Syria would still have a declared chemical weapons stockpile. Right now they don’t.”

Guest host Nicolle Wallace pressed Earnest claiming, “You can’t, you’re saying that we wouldn’t have gained anything in terms of our credibility in the world by saying something and then doing what we said we would do? You don’t think American power could have then influenced their decisions about stock piles?”

Earnest pivoted, and insisted that was a “hypothetical,” and “as a practical matter, we know that right now Bashar al-Assad does not have a declared chemical weapons pile.”

I am sure some people will hang their hats on the word “declared” as they’ll argue what Assad hid can’t be put on Obama. That isn’t going to cut it. They bragged about it as though it were a complete victory.

I hope their bowls of crow taste good.
