We are nearly into the eighth year of President Obama’s term in office and the question of his faith is still an issue for some reason. Worse yet, Republicans are still made to deal with the question from a hostile media that is always looking for a gotcha moment.
That a good number of GOP voters (43% in a recent Fox News poll) believe Obama is a Muslim is often cited as “proof” that conservative voters are “bigots” and they’re “racist” for believing such a thing.
Most of the mainstream media of course, conveniently forgets (or purposely refuses to report it) it was Hillary Clinton’s campaign that started both the rumors of whether or not Barack Obama was born in the United States and the question of his faith and that he might be a Muslim. Hillary’s righteous indignation at Donald Trump not calling out some crank for saying Obama was a Muslim is ironic in that respect.
She tweeted, Trump should have been “denouncing false statements about’ the President.
On cue, this set off yet another round of “Ask Republicans If They Believe Obama Is A Christian” media game. Naturally, if Republicans don’t say emphatically that Obama is a Christian, the media frames it, “______ Refuses To Say Obama Is A Christian.”
It is not unusual in Christian circles to answer “I don’t know” when asked about a person’s faith. It’s a fair response because we don’t know what’s in a person’s heart so it is absurd to say it is “insulting” to say, “I don’t know.” Again, it was Hillary Clinton who set that standard back in 2008 when being interviewed by 60 Minutes. Steve Kroft said, “…you don’t believe that he’s a Muslim.”
Hillary responded:
No! No! Why would I? There’s nothing to base that on. As far as I know…
Emphasis mine. There she is, leaving the question open. Republicans have given similar answers to the same question only to be blasted over it for not being emphatic in their response.
The real question that needs to be asked in all of this absurdity is this:
Who cares?
Any time there is a terrorist attack or an Iranian mullah says something insane about the United States or Israel, we are reminded by a scolding media and President that such actions and views are not representative of all Muslims. We are lectured on how Islam is a beautiful religion, is peaceful and teaches about love and tolerance.
This raises two important questions:
- If it shouldn’t bother anybody that Obama is a Muslim, why does the media screech so loudly when somebody says it?
- If the Muslim religion as as wonderful as defenders claim it is, why is it considered an insult if people think President Obama is a Muslim?
The simplest answer is similar to the question of why Kim Kardashian is famous. She is famous for being famous. With respect to people saying Obama is a Muslim, critics become outraged because they are outraged.
The left will attempt to concoct some nefarious reason why people think Obama is a Muslim, but it is almost always conjecture on their part.
The reality is, this is a non-issue but Democrats and the media will do everything they can to milk the “controversy” for every drop as it has become a great way to avoid talking about other issues. Donald Trump didn’t correct some crank (or plant) who accused President Obama of being a Muslim and that has dominated the news cycle for the last three days.
Mission accomplished.
