As we arrive fully in the world Gertrude Himmelfarb warned us of — a world where our sexual orientation is chosen for us, but we can choose our own gender — there are fewer and fewer voices willing to be heard in the wilderness of secular insanity that envelopes us.

I already know the sh-tstorm this post will cause online. The gay mafia keeps my twitter feed on file somewhere ready to summon the forces of Mordor to drown out the usefulness of my twitter feed every time I dare say anything they disagree with. In fact, that is an intentional and organized pattern and practice. They wish to wear us out and shut us up.

So, again, fewer and fewer voices are willing to speak up. Those of us who can, should speak up. So I will say it – I largely agree with Governor Rick Perry and appreciate him speaking up.

While most of my generation is pretty accepting of the idea that a person can be born gay, there is no settled science on the matter. There certainly is no settled science on pick your own gender adventures. But to say so is apostasy in this secular world. It really does not matter though. Whether one is born gay or not does not mean God made a person gay. And whether it is the unrepentant alcoholic, homosexual, adulterer, liar, or any of the others the Duck Commander listed, none are going to be saved on the last day without repenting.

No one said life was easy, but too many are too ready to give in instead of repenting. Too many tire of the struggle and decide the struggle is just another form of normal. And frankly, it is apart from God. That too is why so many want to drive God out of the public square. God gives us Hope to overcome the struggles of this world, including the flesh. Left to our own devices, Romans 1 tell us we get exactly what we are getting. But we are not creatures of this world — none of us. We are passing through to eternity. YOLO is a lie and if it feels good it does not mean we should do it. The zeitgeist of the present age tells us otherwise, but the Holy Spirit calls us to a higher and better and more eternal purpose.

Gertrude Himmelfarb wrote, “What was once stigmatized as deviant behavior is now tolerated and even sanctioned; what was once regarded as abnormal has been normalized . . . . As deviancy is normalized, so what was once normal becomes deviant. The kind of family that has been regarded for centuries as natural and moral – the ‘bourgeois’ family as it is invidiously called – is now seen as pathological”

This gets into a failure of the church. If you follow along to the synoptic gospels, Christ really did not have a lot of physical altercations with the religious institutions of his day until after the transfiguration and the announcement, from Heaven, of his full on prophetic ministry. After his baptism and the voice from Heaven signaling the start of his priestly ministry, Christ was focused mostly on pastoral care.

We get the beatitudes from his pastoral ministry and his confrontation with the money changers from his prophetic ministry.

Preachers should be both pastors and prophets. Prophets, not in the sense of seeing the future, but in clearly pronouncing from God’s word what will happen in the world without repentance. When preachers give up that prophetical role and focus only on the pastoral, we get people claiming the gospel is about fairness and other nonsense. Some pastors, because of circumstance and ministry, cannot speak up. Those who can, should.

Jesus spent a whole lot more time than anyone else in the Bible talking about hell and damnation, both of which are very real. The turn the other cheek and judge not Jesus was also the smiting, hell fire, throwing them out of the temple Jesus. That’s the same guy.

But it is a lot easier in this mentally ill world to be the hug everybody weepy Jesus. I know of a few pastors who, because they rely on so much tithing from gay couples in their church, they’re subtly shifting away from the full gospel to the modified, redacted version so their revenue stream is not impacted. That is happening more and more and, with the harassment from the gay mafia and the tut tutting of others, it is rarer and rarer to hear bold voices speak truth.

In the United States today, there is vastly more energy spent on shutting up the Truth and distorting it than in boldly telling it.

When those who are willing to speak Truth back to the sound and fury of the age get attacked, silenced, and ridiculed, those of us who agree and are able should speak up and say we agree.

So thank you Governor Perry for being a voice in the wilderness of the present madness that has enveloped society.
