In the video below, Prager University’s Will Witt asks students in the Echo Park neighborhood of Los Angeles to sign a petition supporting the protection of unborn eagles. All are happy to sign. Then, he tells them about his “other” petition which supports the rights of unborn babies. They quickly lose their enthusiasm.

Witt approaches the students and says, “We have a petition to stop the killing of eagles, like eagle eggs, people disturb them or they destroy them. These eagles haven’t been born yet, they have rights, ya know? We don’t think they should be harmed and we think that there should be harsher penalties for those kind of things. Would you guys agree?”

All of them were receptive.

“Don’t kill eagles. Eagles are people, too!” said one.

Another said, “Oh my God, how fun.”

“Best of luck, I hope you save the eagles.”

Then Witt tells them about his other petition, saying “We have one other petition about stopping the killing of humans, too — like, babies.”

“Uh, I hate the killing of babies!” one woman gasped, before understanding that the petition was against abortion.”

These students who only moments ago had so quickly signed a petition to protect unborn eagles, were unwilling to sign a petition to protect unborn humans.

Witt asked the students why they supported the killing of unborn children, but not the killing of unborn eagles. Here are several of their responses.

“Wait, no. I don’t agree with that. I’m like pro-abortion, sorry. Eagles aren’t raped.”

“Oh, no, I don’t agree. I fully support abortion.”

“Uh, I think it’s the woman’s decision. A human woman should have more rights probably than a bald eagle.”

“Babies are gross. You know what it does to your body? You’re not a woman so you have no idea.”

The Daily Wire’s Amanda Prestigiacomo makes the point that it is illegal to “destroy the egg of a bald eagle in the United States, though there are well over 600,000 legal abortions performed each year.”

The Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act of 1940 states that “deliberately destroying — or even disturbing — a bald eagle’s egg is punishable by a maximum $5,000 fine and up to a year in prison.”

Which brings us back to the point of Witt’s exercise: Is an eagle egg more valuable than a baby?
