Meghan McCain Melts Down Over Ilhan Omar's Comments

The ladies on ABC’s “The View” were discussing Rep. Ilhan Omar’s latest anti-Semitic comments, and Meghan McCain was upset about it, very upset. Please watch the video above.

McCain said:

Just quickly, I take this very seriously. I’d go so far as to say I verge on being a Zionist as well. I will say that I don’t have family that is Jewish, but Joe Lieberman and Hadassah Lieberman are my family. And I take the hate crimes rising in this country incredibly seriously and I think what’s happening in Europe is really scary and I’m getting emotional but the idea that this is politicized and I was very nervous to talk about this on the show because I thought it would become politicized and it really shouldn’t be. On both sides, it should be called out and just because I don’t technically have Jewish family that are blood related to me doesn’t mean I don’t take this as seriously. And it is very dangerous, very dangerous, and I think we collectively as Americans on both sides, What Ilhan Omar is saying is very scary to me and it’s very scary to a lot of people and I don’t think you have to be Jewish to recognize that.

Despite the brouhaha that ensued among members of the House Democratic caucus this week over her most recent flap, Omar retweeted the rather inflammatory remarks made by Al Jazeera host and Georgetown professor Mehdi Hasan:

“Meghan’s late father literally sang ‘bomb bomb bomb Iran’ and insisted on referring to his Vietnamese captors as ‘gooks’. He also, lest we forget, gave the world Sarah Palin…So a little less faux outrage over a former refugee-turned-freshman-representative pls.”

Now, I’m not a fan of either Meghan McCain, who has the uncanny ability to make everything about her, or of her late father who, if alive today, would probably find a way to blame President Trump for the current level of racial and religious bigotry in the country. However, it baffles me that Omar has escaped with impunity every time she’s made an anti-Semitic comment.

And why does she still have a seat on the House Foreign Affairs Committee?

We don’t have to guess what would happen if a white person made anti-Muslim remarks. We need only to look at Rep. Steve King (R-IA) who made some misguided statements about white supremacy. He received immediate bipartisan condemnation and was stripped of all House committee assignments.

Ilhan Omar makes insulting, bigoted remarks endlessly, but Nancy Pelosi is so afraid of losing her already weak grip on power, she can’t even pass a measure rebuking Omar specifically. Not only that, the resolution doesn’t even address anti-Semitism specifically. The final product bears no resemblance to what was originally intended. Why did they even bother to pass it?

The lack of any real consequences for Omar has emboldened her. Within a week, we’ll be hearing about the next insult from Ilhan Omar.

Last week, when Omar’s image appeared on an anti-Muslim poster displayed in the West Virginia statehouse, politicians rushed to condemn it.

Omar and her pals Rashida Tlaib and AOC are now running the show in the House of Representatives.

And that’s a very dangerous thing for America.
