RedState's WaterCooler! Tuesday, 3/14/2017 - Welcome to the Official [unofficial] Special SnowStella Open Thread!!

“Stella!  Stella!  Hey, Stella!” – Stanley Kowalski

Winter’s last blast is upon us, and its name is Stella! Until “Winter Storm Athena” in November 2012, weather geeks named snowstorms things like “The Great Snow of 1717,” or “The Washington and Jefferson Snowstorm of 1772.” Surely few live with no knowledge of “The Great Blizzard of ’78” also known as “The Northeast Blizzard of 1978” which should not be confused with “The Northeastern United States Blizzard of 1978.” It was a “Blizzard,” “Great,” “Northeastern,” and solidly locked into the “United States,” but Geez ‘o Pete weather persons! Pick a name and stick to it!

So, The Weather Channel did – much to the flurry of some at the National Weather Service. TWC took charge of the name game and since “Athena,” there have been nearly 150 nicknames, “Draco” (2012), “Juno ” (2015) and “Nemo” (2013) among them. Which “Nemo,” by the by is way cooler than the NSW’s low-energy “Early February 2013 North American blizzard.”

It’s a woeful winter in the Middle Atlantic when some southern states score record snow totals, while we flame out with grande epic half inch blizzards. So it is, though and I refuse to be bitter … *sigh*

Anyway, Stella’s got her groove on moving across the mid-west, into the Ohio Valley and Pennsylvania. New England is expecting Miss Stella to ‘doze herself a wide swath up the east coast. This baby’s seen it all or soon will.

Lots ‘o wind, sleet, snow, rain in the dead of night and into the daylight hours too for the far northerners.

Here you have it, RedStaters! Your chance to participate in RedState’s Official [unofficial] SnowStella Open Thread! How many feets of snow did you get? Do you have any SnowStories yet? Did you take any Stella pics you’d like to share in the WaterCooler comments? For those of us who missed the wallop the weather demons angels promised, tell us about your Stella. Enjoy!
