ABC/WaPo Poll: Hillary Up Despite Trump Edge on Corruption

Hillary-Trump

The latest ABC News/Washington Post tracking poll, released Thursday morning, Finds Hillary Clinton leading Donald Trump 47-44 percent in a four-day average among likely voters:

  • Hillary Clinton – 47%
  • Donald Trump – 44%
  • Gary Johnson – 3%
  • Jill Stein – 2%

ABC News calls this shift from Trump’s 45-46 percent lead three days ago after news of the FBI’s renewed investigation into Hillary’s email scandal, “not statistically significant.” Even though Hillary’s three point lead is equal to the poll’s margin of error ABC declares it a “hint of momentum for Hillary.”

The biggest takeaway other than Hillary’s lead is Trump’s “clear lead on dealing with corruption in government and immigration”:

Among all likely voters, the biggest difference comes in trust to handle corruption in government: A 9-point advantage for Trump, 48-39 percent. That echoes a result earlier this week in which Trump opened up his first lead over Clinton in honesty and trustworthiness, eight points, following word of the renewed investigation of emails linked to her private server.

Other notable results from this poll are Trump’s continued 6-point advantage in strong enthusiasm among his supporters:

Just 47 percent of Clinton’s supporters are strongly enthusiastic about her, compared with 53 percent of Trump’s – and, for comparison, a peak of 69 percent of Barack Obama’s by the end of the 2012 race.

The Washington Post reports that Trumps 9-point advantage on dealing with corruption in government echoes a result earlier this week – Trump’s 8-point lead over Hillary in honesty and trustworthiness. The Post also notes an easing in Trump’s support among Independents, a group that favored Trump by as much as 19 points last week. Trump’s lead with the group has come back to eight points in the latest wave, 47 percent for him compared to 39 percent for Clinton.

This ABC News/Washington Post poll was conducted Oct. 30-Nov. 2, 2016 and has a margin of error of 3 percent.
