It has been learned that an employee at a Las Vegas high-rise condominium is the “good guy with a gun” who stopped a would-be mass shooter on Friday. As RedState reported, security footage of the incident went viral on social media.

The shooter, Andrew Warrender, 32, has been charged with attempted murder, two counts of assault with the use of a deadly weapon, and illegally discharging a gun, after the incident in East Central Las Vegas, near the north end of the Las Vegas Strip. According to 8 News Now:

Police said they received a call shortly after 3 p.m. on Friday, about the shooting at the complex, which is in the 300 block of Karen Avenue. When officers arrived, they found two people involved, one who was injured from a gunshot wound. That person is believed to be Warrender.

As of Tuesday, Warrender’s status was in custody at the Clark County Detention Center, being held without bail. Records show he was arrested on Saturday. A booking photo was not immediately available. Richard Schonfeld, attorney for Warrender, requested that a Clark County judge postpone his client’s arraignment until he is able to attend the proceeding. According to records, Warrender did not attend a Tuesday hearing due to medical reasons.

Another local news station spoke to a resident who claimed to witness the incident:

According to the resident, a man wearing a helmet had an AR-15 and other weapons when he entered the towers Friday afternoon. This is when the resident tells us the man fired shots in the area of the front desk, shattering glass which is shown in pictures they have provided to us. The resident says it was an employee of the towers who stopped the attack, and thinks they are a hero who deserves recognition for stepping in.

The outlet also noted that Las Vegas Metropolitan Police had not confirmed these details.

LVMPD posted a statement about the incident that afternoon, tweeting that a subject had been found and transported to receive medical attention for the gunshot wound.

What can be surmised from the charges filed against Warrender is that investigators appear to believe that one person involved was an assailant and the other acted in self-defense. LVMPD has not officially released any identifying information about the “good guy” who intervened in what may have been a tragic massacre if left unopposed, possibly due to concerns about running afoul of Marsy’s Law, which prevents disclosure of information about a victim that can assist a defendant in locating or harassing the victim or their family.
